Firstly, who the **** are giffgaff

Secondly, as there's no mention of a lengthy contract duration it only seems like a limited offer before it vanishes again. Hardly worth bothering with.
#10
very good deal maybe temped by this i am currently on asda network on pay as you go. 8p a min and 4p text. i used alot of text, spend £5 or more a month maybe time for a change.

Giffgaff are a MVNO virtual network run on the O2 network - its a subsidiary of O2 - a barebones tariff to compete against Asda etc.

Yes - its a PAYG SIM no lengthy contract - the £5 SIM could be taken for now and September, outside of their goodybags it 8p a call 4p text but all texts and calls are free giffgaff to giffgaff for 3 months after each top up.

Oh and you can earn money back for contributing to their forum - just over a £50 in two months for me.
#12
Thanks for this - just bought one
#13
Anyone know if you can keep your current number with this deal?

No mention of it on the Teso Mobile website.

Thanks

what is their reception like?
#15
The reception is brilliant.. Tesco uses 02 networks.. It's exatcly the same.. something like 99% of the country is covered? or something crazy :D

what is their reception like?

They use o2's network so it's pretty good.
#17
so what is better?? giff gaff or this tesco deal?? I dont understand
#18
giffgaff are ok, i got this for my dad.... it piggy backs o2 no credit check no contract
#19
looks good but can't see anything about adding internet
#20
Can this be used on an iphone?

And what are the charges if you use 3G data?

No, use Tesco's £15/month contract for the iPhone. Unlimited texts, unlimited internets, lots of minutes (600 I think), rolling one-month contract. It's a good deal.
#22
Do you get to make use of the £6 after the month is over?

I looked at this, but I decided to stick with O2 and swap from £20/month Simplicity to £10/month PAYG

This isn't a good idea for everyone, but if you use less than 300 texts (which I do) and less than 500Mb data (which I do), then it's a decent deal. Note that the Tesco deal doesn't include any data.

It's true that calls will be about 25p/minute on O2 PAYG, but I make very very few calls so the 40 minutes my £10 buys is plenty.

As with all of these deals, you really have to know what your usage pattern is and buy accordingly. For example, I could use the Tesco £15/month plan for loads more minutes and unlimited data, but I don't even get close to the limits of my £10/month so the extra fiver would be a waste.

why? is the Giff Gaff and Tesco fair use policy 300 = unlimited?

Data is charged at £4/Mb...which is outstandingly shocking. If you intend using your phone for internet at all, I'd be very wary of this deal.

Tesco's £10 monthly rolling SIM deal reads as follows:

£10 Tariff 1 Month Contract (250 minutes plus unlimited texts and 3 months unlimited data)

Source: http://www.tescomobilepaymonthly.com/product-page.aspx?Tag=5a7c1795-70aa-4ffe-bcff-b69b8de38737&so=1

Three months of limited data awarded each month doesnt seem to make much sense - can anyone elaborate further please?

No, I mean the O2 PAYG deal that I've moved on to.

You get data for free for the first 3 months that you stay with them. After that, there is a per/Mb charge. Can't remember what is was exactly but the guy I spoke to at Tesco was pretty switched on and he made it pretty clear that their £15/month deal is the one to go for if you want to use any amount of data.

Thanks chaps, thats a shame as I assumed it was simply a typo. It reads in the same sentence as the monthly minutes and texts so unless you only get those in the first month it implies that you get 3 months of data each month (which is why I was confused). Thanks for clearing that up, will stick with Three I think.

EDIT - £15 deal just a flexible credit deal? These where you basically get PAYG rates right?

Signed up for this a few days ago, wish I'd known about giff gaff but hey ho.

Went through topcashback and it's tracked at £6 even though it doesn't say anything about cashback for the £6 tariff.

Yes, you just need the pack code from your previous supplier.

Just got mine from Orange, they post it to you. It takes 3 - 5 days. :(

I use Tesco PAYG taffif for every £10 I top up I get £20 free credit [free credit must be used within a month].
I was thinking of a similar contract with Tesco - but they don't have very good rating on the forums. Apparently they operate quite a tough 'fair-use' policy.
cheers
John
