where can we unlock this for £2? a couple of quid is £2. so proof please....

Rather than coming across as a bit obnoxious, demanding proof, why not ask nicely OR do a quick search?

Can't believe I got this phone around 7 months ago for exactly the same price. Price hasn't dropped at all. Amazing investment.

Surprisingly there are no codes around at the moment, even the £5 off new account code that always works has been expired for the moment.

I bought this phone from Tesco a couple of months ago and can confirm that they can be unlocked with a code bought on ebay for £1.99.

I used Ebay item 221386797681 from mobunlockingmaster.

You simply put a sim card in from a different network and enter the code when prompted.

This model is called the XT1039 by the way when searching for a code.

The MotoG is one of those phones that has held its value amazingly well. Pretty much costs the same as it did on launch.

Apparently Tesco will refund difference in price within 28 days (I read elsewhere) so try the Tesco Direct chat if you want a tenner back.

The difficult thing is there is no objective view on what is better, mainly because different people will use in different ways and for different things. The Moto G 4G IS great for many people, but if you want a decent camera, or even half-decent, look elsewhere. Some people think the 8MP camera on the newer version is better but not seen for myself - I do know I have been constantly frustrated by the 5MP one in the first generation in anything other than good daylight and have moved on as a result, even though I liked it for most other things (my one didn't have expandable memory either but this does). People talk about how it zips along but mine has really slowed down of late (bought in November 2013 almost as soon as it came out). Battery life is unbeatable if that;s important to you. But if you want a decent camera, I suspect the s5 mini is a better bet.

The US LTE (XT1045) version of this phone is difficult to find, make me wonder if a new one is imminent.

You did well to get the Moto G 4G for that price when it first launched, they were generally selling for £149 at launch around June 2014

Many thanks, I got £10 refunded yesterday evening too. I was very impressed at how quick, efficient & helpful Tesco Direct were via online chat. (Phone unlocked quickly and easily for £1.99 via mobunlockingmaster on eBay.)

I don't think this version of the Moto G ever came with 16gb - only 8 + sd card expansion. The original non 4G version did.

Thanks again IamMT. I've just posted your advice on the earlier (and now expired) £125 thread too, in the hope that others who bought then, like me, might also get the refund.

Hi everyone

I have an issue with my current 8g phone where I try to install apps, but constantly say insufficient memory. I have a SD installed, but it only looks at the phone memory. will I have the same issue here?

Well the question is whether you want to pay 3 times as much and that is personal - but if having a decent camera is important then maybe it is worth it if you can afford it (of course there may be other options that sit between them price wise and there's the full size S5 on offer on Vodfone posted on HUKD too!). For me I just won't spend huge amounts of money on a phone... I took a punt on the LG 4X HD I posted and the camera does look as though it is better (far less blurry in less than full light if a little noisy) but I'm not yet sure whether the battery life is going to be OK or not.

Hello Antony. Phones running KitKat (as this one does) won't allow most apps to be installed or moved to an SD card. This is a KitKat restriction, not a Motorola restriction. Google apps, such as Gmail, Google Play, etc can go on the SD, as can media, such as music. Other apps can't, such as games, etc. Hopefully Google will remove this restriction in the upcoming Lollipop update. If not, then you'd have to root the phone to get around the restriction.

I want to replace my old Samsung i9000. All I use it for is calls, texts, apps and occasional browsing, never games or videos. My son advises to get a used Nexus 5 as he likes his. For what I need, would this MOTO G be OK for about 1/2 the price of a used Nexus ?

Yes! You can probably get something cheaper than this for your needs but the Moto G (all versions) is held in high esteem for price to performance.

great thank you, it's far too easy to get sucked into buying a flashy phone when all I want are the basics and good battery life

For the money the Moto G phones are probably the best option unless you like spending a lot of money on your phones.

Nexus 5 battery life especially on a used phone is not going to be great compared to this 8)
