I hesitate to post this one as a ton of abuse is bound to follow - but it's a heads up which may do someone a favour:

I was browsing the technology section of my local store (Solihull, Monkspath) this morning and they were about to put out half a dozen one off laptops for clearance. Appeared to be cutomer returns which had been checked over (marked on boxes).

Cheapest example was a very basic eMachines, but at £165 still a deal. They also had a better spec Dell, Toshiba and a couple of others at £249 / £299.

This may just be a local store initiative or maybe Tesco are clearing such stocks nationwide. Must be worth a look if you're in there already?

My store were giving 20% off.For items that in probability had belonged to an unhappy customer or had been fingered to death on a shelf I though not really worth the hassle.

But a good heads up

I couldn't find one within a two mile radius of my house, but I did see one once in a store while I was on holiday in Germany which worked out cheaper because of the exchange rate at the time so I am voting cold!

Is that the sort of thing you were after? ;)

BTW - I voted hot!

Do they still give a full 12 months warranty as a matter of interest?

I wonder how many 'hot deals' have been missed because posters couldn't be bothered with all the anticipated abuse, certainly put me off before now.
Never really understood why people need to be so hostile:?

Yes they normally do.

not returned stock, all ex-displays to make way for new models.
20% is the nationwide figure. Got myself a green acer notebook for £125 but i have staff discount as well.
some of the things are worth getting.

couldnt agree more. I have no problem with constructive comments, but some people get vicious. I notice that those people have never posted a deal in their life.

Hexham store has Dell monitors reduced, all opened boxes. I think they were about £70, they also had 2 compaq desktops for £180 each but they went when i was there!!

Ex-demos in Irvine branch. Didn't get the specs but a few Acers, couple of Toshibas, a Dell Studio, and a Sony Viao.
#12
Pity that most of the laptops on display on my local Tesco are missing keys form the keyboard.

I am certainly scared off posting by all the abuse and the elastic band experts that come out of the woodwork.

Can't see these being in my local. For some reason, they never have any of the deals posted on HUKD and since they extended and "improved" the store there seems to be more gaps in the shelves and missing lines. They've even stopped selling Coke Zero!!!

Still, I'll probably nip in tomorrow just to make sure :p

OP: I hesitate posting anything on this site for the prediction of ridicule and ignorant people who are blind to a decent deal. So, your not alone there.

If we all do this then these idiots win. I think that for every idiot there are many more helpful people on this site and that is why I come on here.

I think most of the ridicule is directed at the people responsible for the mass of completely hopeless deals that are posted on here.
Do you have an example of a decent deal that ignorant people have proved blind to?
#24
the store was BS'ing. tesco returns all hardlines for bookstock refunds. these as prev mentioned will be ex-demo.
our store offers only 10% of ex demo , and sometimes they are in shockingly bad condition.
your full consumer rights still apply though.

Decent deal for whom everyone is looking for different things, whats hot for one might not be for another.

My mother used to say if you can't say something nice then don't say anything ;-)

Our tesco seem to be doing this with a few things atm, any damaged stock they seem to patch up and sell on as "managers specials" though the manager at our local must be really stingy!! Hot deal though!

Sorry, George F doesn't much for me so I didn't notice. I don't think the little store in Hall Green does technology anyway.

Thanks for the supportive comments people - appreciated. Hope someone finds something useful.

I get the impression that the terms of these 'clearance' deals vary store to store. My local must have a generous (or incompetent) manager as some of these were certainly more than 10% off, probably more than 20% as there had been intermediate reductions. Wish I'd taken more details now but I was trying hard not to get 'sucked in' for something I really don't need! Bought a TV to get my 'fix' for the day.

Re the abuse that gets posted, yes I largely agree though it's plain ignorance and stupidity which gets to me much more. Let's be careful we don't take all the humour out too.
#35
cant vote - as really not a deal since ex display nearly always is 10% off and if customers dont know that then surely they shud take some custom else where lol... since they probably bump into the windows walking in the store...lol

Ignore the nasty posts (not that there are any in here!) It's just a small minority that seem to stand out from the rest, the majority of people on here will defend you in those circumstances! =]

I'm on the lookout for a laptop for my mum, she only checks her emails and does some online shopping so nothing power mad. Wonder if it'll be worth a check? I guess most stock would have gone by now if it was marked down as much as 20%+

Ive never posted a deal for fear of ridicule tbh.

Ive noticed its usually the more posts a member has the more sarky and picky the answer, shame really cos I've saved bundles on this site and would like to contribute something back.

Thanks for being brave op ;)
#40
For those 'nervous' about posting do it, usually the whiners think they have some superior knowledge or taste above everyone else and usually they have hardly ever posted a deal themselves. You shouldnt take it personally just give it back if you think someone is making a moron of themselves. At the end of the day these are only comments and views and dont change your life when you hit the power off button.
