Had a quick google, and it looks like it's got decent specs - hope it works well out of the box, and no dodgy firmware.

Where's that from please? Been looking and cheapest I can find is 229?

no worries, it wasn't rocket science thankfully, the Tesco Direct page lists it as "Technika Smartbox 8320HD", so just put 2 and 2 together:thumbsup:

How different the modern age might have been if goole had come up with the most popular search engine.

I notice the FetchTV version uses the same remote control as my old Netgem iPlayer..........with the internet connectivity I'm wondering if it'll also use the old Netgem iPlayer wireless keyboard - that'd be fab!

Interesting to see that all but three of the PVRs listed on the comparison site are 'only' capable of recording a single channel [including this Technika/Smartbox]...

I think that's a poor omission with today's latest technology - I remember there had even been talk last year of maybe quad tuners for the Humax version! :w00t:

I think you've misread that - they can all record 2 channels at oince..........i think you might be getting confused with record 2 channels whilst watching a 3rd.
#25
Hopefully by the time my area gets Freeview HD, these boxes will have dropped in price

EDIT: Just had a quick look on the Freeview HD site, used the post code checker and apparently BBC HD and 4 HD are "Available Now" and ITV/STV HD coming soon.
£200 is a lot for 2 channels.....

Are you referring to Technika or Netgem? You do realise that Technika is just Tesco's rebrand of other suppliers electronics? in this case it is a Netgem PVR with FetchTV. I have no experience of their recent pvr's, but did have the older netgem iplayer, which is probably still amongst the best freeview set top boxes available, and was years ahead of it's time when released.
My experience of Netgem is very positive, so I get the feeling you're basing your opinion on your experience of Technika, which would be somewhat missguided in this instance.

Just ordered one to replace my Philips HDT8520 which was far too buggy to be usable - hoping this will be much better and it comes with BBC iPlayer out of the box.

Discount code TDX-CCB2 for today only takes £10 off.

Forum link here - first reviews are now appearing from those who bought it today:

Trouble is they tell everyone a different story - most people have been told it will be end of July which is more like 8 weeks away. If the Technika box works and gives a good picture then I would rather save £110 personally. When they say "all the teething problems resolved" what exactly do they mean - they haven't published any info on what is going to be addressed. I have a specific issue with "HDCP authentication error" messages appearing while I'm watching both SD and HD channels - support had no idea whether this would ever be fixed so I'm not waiting 8 weeks to find out.

yea i hear what your saying the only problem that i have with mine is the epg which is not really a problem coz if you press info on a channel you can just go up and down on that and it tells you whats on and next then just hit the ok button

you must just be extra unlucky and have a dodgy unit maybe:?
#36
Hi does anyone know of any discount codes that can be used on this
#37
Not happy with mine.

Received this morning... it says during the installation that a firmware upgrade will occur on or before 9th June. I hope so, as these are my initial observations...

- doesn't playback audio from recorded (or rewound) HD programmes
- locks up (requires reboot) if buttons mashed too quickly
- jitters at the top and bottom of the screen, nomatter what resolution you set the box to deliver
- all horizontal lines exhibit shimmering (sky sports news channel (freeview 83) has lots of horizontal lines)
- HD broadcasts appear darker than SD and sure don't look like HD to me

I'll wait to see if the upgrade fixes these issues otherwise it's back to Tesco.

got mine yesterday, all works fine!

:? Really?

I spoke to FetchTV support when they opened at 5pm and they said the absence of sound on recorded HD was a known problem being addressed within the company. If you're saying your recorded (or timeshifted) HD has sound during playback, then that's very interesting indeed.

You did test it on a hi-def channel didn't you (eg, freeview 50 or 51) ?
#40
For the shimmering did you try setting it to full widescreen?
