Wow, to think that only just over a year ago searching for a player to play divx files for under 200£ was hard work. Now they are being given away near enough.

Good spot, good deal.

Please have some H&R my good fellow.

Thanks.

XviD. Wow. Hot.

Parents had this but took it back, started out OK but it sounded like the harddrive wore out after just a few weeks use -- started making all kinds of noises and would cause all dvds to keep stalling and skipping. Also was impossible to play any of those dvd games on.

Maybe they just got unlucky, but in my experience...save your pennies.

worth it just for the hardrive alone, are you sure it was the hardrive and not the fan on the cpu.

Since when did DVD players use either? Surely it will run on some kinda ARM processor?
#14
This has no Hard Drive, so why does it keep being mentioned!!? :x

Despite the stupidly 'misleading' comments by others, this is a great deal.

Cheers for highlighting it, Balanu

Why would anyone in the right mind buy a tesco DVD player, when for a couple of pounds more you could get a Sony?

You seem to have forgotten to attach a link to the Sony DVD player you mentioned with the same capabilities as the Tesco one for only £2 more. I'm sure there would be a lot of happy people in here if you could add it please?

I'd quite happily take a Sony Divx/Xvid/MPG4 DVD player for 16 or 17 quid but can you point any of us in the direction of one?

Truth is, generally speaking, the cheapo players will actually be more compatible with a larger range of discs/formats than a branded "quality" unit - although this is disputable with Sony these days.

If that's your idea of humour, then a howling wind and several rolling tumbleweeds must appear , followed by a long protracted silence, whenever you crack a joke :p

Thats so funny...the power of marketing!
This is an unbranded product (not Technika etc) Who do you think makes them for Tesco? :whistling: It might not be Sony but it will be one of the big brands so you need to go on the technical spec not the name...
We have this in our sons room and it a great DVD player - looks really sleek too.

Its unlikely to be made by a big brand but instead a low cost chinese manufacturer who also make most of the mid range to low end big brand dvd players. At the moment with the financial meltdown there is an oversupply of stock of dvd players and other consumable electronic products so prices will fall however later prices will increase because of the fall of the pound and less worldwide capacity. Many chinese manufacturers have closed or temporarily shutdown at the moment.
#35
I had one of these and the power supply went pop after one week. It wasn't that great anyway and some of my xvids wouldn't play (plays on my other dvd player). I thought it was a cracking price back then but I'd probably wont buy cheap no name electricals again (not just because of this - had problems with other electricals).
#36
Saw this again today in Tescos.
Think it was something like £12.74
#37
Maybe I didn't mean Hard Drive, maybe I meant fan, or transistor or something else entirely -- I don't claim to know how the hell DVD players work.

I was trying to do people a favour by offering an opinion based on actually having owned the machine and it being **** and being sent back after less than a month.

I shan't bother in future.

Hope it works out better for those of you that are buying it than it did for my parents.

So that would be a low cost chinese manufacturer who make players for the 'name' brands LOL
Isnt that the same?

Doesn't seem to be working with this offer. Used O2 sim pack:
"One or more items in your order is unsuitable for premium delivery"

Any advice?
