SD/MMC Card reader (up to 4GB)

Bit confused by this bit, up to 4GB doesn't make much sense.
Surely it should be up to 2GB... ?
#5
Would appear to have 2 pair of RCA outputs, 1 for sub, the other for full range, check ou the info off the link

Website i linked to states 1GB for the SD slot, unless Aldi knows something Tevion don't ;-)

Wasn't this just for today? A Sunday only offer? Or do these things last until the stocks run out?

Anyone tested the Bluetooth handsfree?
#8
Anyone know if this supports ID3 tags? I have a set up like this apart from Bluetooth and does not have ID3 tags, completely sucks, been looking to replace it.
#9
I had their first bluetooth one about 18 months ago, it looked miles better than that one, no a2dp or sd card slot but sound was fantastic and bluetooth worked great, in fact the bluetooth calling was better than my sony bt5000!

ID tags from sd card most likely yes but probabily not while streaming. Only speculating, may be worth waiting for a definitive answer.

These last until all the stock goes.
Our local branch ended up selling the last one at under twenty quid.

I bought one a year or two ago and it is ok for the money but everytime the power / ignition is turned off the song restarts from the start. does this one do the same ?

It's not a memory/wiring issue as it's only the song that restarts not the memory, it's how the stereo is made, just want to know if this one does the same.

Indeed, my one does not support it on anything though so really is a pain if you put more than a single album on a usb stick/sd card.
#14
there was one at aldo some time ago that did look better but this has more features, I would be happy to master my bay parking yet before spending money on these gadgets.

SD card standard supports card sizes up to 4Gb. Bigger than 4Gb is SD HC (not compatible).

Reason why most 4GB cards are SD HC and not SD:

a lot of SD devices (like my digital camera) only support the FAT file system, and max. size for FAT (= 16bit) is 2 Gb. A 4Gb card > 2 Gb and must be formatted with FAT32 (32 bit) instead of FAT. So the SD 4Gb cards cause problems: a lot of older equipment can't read them (because they only read FAT and not FAT32)

That's why most companies only sell 4GB SD HC cards and not 4Gb SD. 4Gb SD cards are rare, but you can get them (from Amazon etc)

Just heard from someone who bought one today that this unit is definitely ok with 2GB cards.
I'm guessing that's the limit though, doesn't appear to support SDHC (so won't do 4GB cards despite what it says on the ALDI website).

True, but there are still compatibility issues, not all devices will accept them - so there's still no guarantee of a 4GB non SDHC card working.

Just a possible note of caution/checking for anyone with a car radio 12V power circuit that is NOT switched off when the car's ignition is turned off.

I had one of Aldi's non-bluetooth radio/CD models earlier in the year - excellent price/spec and performance, except...

... it had an unfortunate feature that it REQUIRED to be connected to a switched power supply as confirmed by their helpline later. When left connected to my car with permanent power (although radio turned off) it drained the battery within 1 day.

Fair enough as a feature (aka design flaw) but needs to be spelt out on the outside packaging to avoid people like me wasting their time fitting it and ending up with an unstartable car next day.

Just a caveat in case this one has a similar design feature to watch out for - maybe phone up and check with their helpline if your car is similarly "underequipped" power wise. (Can always buy it anyway and rely on the Aldi 30 day return policy, if the phone call leads you to needing to return it uninstalled.)

Thanks mk-donald, that explains what happened to mine..
The hinge went wonky on mine so I put my original astra radio back in and I havent had a battery problem since.
Had the tevion in for almost 12 months and every few days the battery would drain, (not completely flat)
Always have my car serviced and I mentioned this to garage and they couldnt find anything wrong anywhere.
Now youve posted this, that explains it.

Don't people like you?

I always laugh when I see re-posts going hot when the original only gets warm - not so funny for you though :p

Just fitted mine this afternoon, took a little while as i had to play with the loom to get some other bits working

One main thing I had to do was change the live and ignition live over as in my Astra they were the other way round, a little bit of cutting and soldering but no big issue. Just remember if you're stereo forgets your saved radio channels each time then you'll need to as I did (red & orange wires)

Really happy with it, does everything I wanted and for such a bargain price!

awesome unit for such a cheap price.
only took 10 minutes to fit in, paired with my Xda orbit no problem.
excellent sound quality when played music via my phone, gonna get another one tomorrow:thumbsup:

does your tomtom on your orbit (if u have it) go thru the radio?

Picked mine up yesterday (my 3rd Aldi car stereo - 2nd in this car) and it is brilliant!

Syncs with my N95-8Gb with no problem, streams A2DP music with no problems whatsoever!

Heat & Rep added!

Just picked one up from exeter in silver with a remote control. Wasnt out on display, asked a chap and they where behind the counters!

Includes a 3 year warrenty, customer service numbers etc, all the cables Aux cable for ipods, usb cable and the ISO cable!

Good find!

Nice build quality, sound and features. A2DP works a treat as does the phone function.
Sound pickup from built in MIC okay at low town speeds, but in van on motorway not
so good.
The BIG downside to this unit is the time it takes in changing sources. If you go
from RADIO to CD/MP3 or CARD it can take ages (feels like about half a minute, maybe
longer. This also happens when you power down and then back on. If you are just
nipping out of the car for a couple of minutes, its quicker to press PAUSE then switch
it off. If you do switch off, it will, eventually, return to the begining of the track you were playing.

Also, its crashed a couple of times.

OR do I have a duff one ? Has anyone else noticed the slow change between sources ?

Apart from that, excellent value for money but I will be returning mine :x

This represents much better value for money IMHO.

Plays DVDs, DivX and VCD as well. Granted you have to buy a screen to make use of that - but it is £10 cheaper to start with. It also has an SD slot and USB slot.

Have 2 of them - fitted and with screens in mine and the missus cars. (And paid much more!!!)

Fitted this in today, easy as pie! Just hope the wire's on the ISO block match up with my rover, although all works fine so far, calls are fairly clear and it sounds fairly good!

Hello,

Newbie here.
Just bought one of these took one back because it was covered in chips, to be honest they look at best to be refurbishments.

How long does everyone elses cd's take to load, mine seems to take anything from 6-7 to 10-15 depending on scratches. Anyone else find the loading time slow.

Trying to weigh up whether theres an electric fault as the cd player in seemed like the laser was dead.

Any information will help.

Great bargain.

I have noticed that after taking a call the unit doesn't go back to what I was listening too before the call came in but thats just a minor irritation. I have to use the Mode button to get back to the CD/Card etc.

Same if I am using my phone based TomTom GPS (N95 8GB). After any directions are issued by TomTom the unit does not return to whatever I was listening too before.

The time taken to load CD's or from the card is slow but no slower than a Blaupunkt Woodstock I have in another car (and that cost 10 times as much ! !)
