I have tried it with a USB portable hard drive and it plays DivX files from that too.

Looks good - any thoughts on how it compares to the philips dvd upscaler for £40
#2
Certainly does look good - but having burnt my fingers badly with Tevion branded goods before I'll give it a miss.

Same here: a Tevion upscaling player in mid 2007 that got returned as it simply didn't play discs AND had a manual that was truly dreadfully bad. Replaced it with a Sony upscaler at twice the price and didn't regret it; since then friends also had a Philips upscaler for c£40 that's excellent too. Had 2 of the Tevion PVRs over the years that were all utter **** too and returned within hours - never again.

If you are tempted - and the 3yr warranty certainly gives you a lot of cover (when the STORE who are legally liable for faults in the first instance deny all knowledge/ability to deal with your rights) do check whether the support line is an 0870 number as that can soon add up! - eg An electric lawn rake I bought from Aldi (again in the days before I thought about such issues) cost nearly £3 in calls & letters just in arranging for the warranty line to repair it - and weeks without it!

The support line is an 0800 number.

Free support number
Free 3 year warranty

All for £33.

Personally I thought it was a right bargain, at that price, and i've certainly no complaints.

Your telly will upscale dvd's better than this. Unless your telly is tevion /bush /vistron etc...
#7
Please, I am no expert. Can someone advise how the tv upscales better than this?

I thought the point of these was that they were good for watching SD DVDs on new HD tellys?

If the telly can upscale - then what is the point in any of the up-scaling dvd players?

I got the black one too - looks ok and plays fine.

Region free - try the following:

Press open tray on the remote
On the remote press 9999 and you will see the number 9 appear upper right hand corner of the screen.

Job done!

This worked for mine so should work for yours too.

Your tv will be either 768p or 1080p. Whatever you feed your tv, it will up-scale or down-scale depending on the source to the tv's native resolution.

With cheapo players like this it is almost certainly better to just play it on your standard dvd player and let your tv upscale it. Any decent tv should have a better scaling chip than this Tevion.
