Just been instore at House of Fraser and picked up a TH42PX80B for £550 with a free 5-year warranty. I'm pretty sure it's a nationwide promotion because I know that the Gateshead HoF is doing this deal too.

In case you don't know, the TH42PX80B is a Panasonic plasma-screen TV. It has the best reviews of any TV around and its getting discontinued very soon, so these will be snapped up quick.

Called the Glasgow store confirmed the 549.99 with 5 yr guarantee.
They could order one and have it delivered to store within 7-10 days for this price they confirmed.

They have a number of promotions which are cheaper in-store than on line.

I was told that the Panasonics have the manufacturer's 5 year warranty when I called in last week, which is excellent, but looking on AVForums and the like there seems to be some discussion about whether this is true. I'd appreciate any confirmation of this from others who have been into HoF and looked:thumbsup:

I'd recommend this TV as well. I've had the earlier PX60 model for over two years now and it has been great. SD is very good quality, even through Sky, and it looks great with the Xbox as most of the games are 720p anyway. I haven't had any image retention at all, even briefly. I was looking at a 50" Samsung last week and you could clearly see the text from the preceding advert for about 30 seconds when the screen changed.

Superb telly superb price with the 5yr guarantee.

Superb set, don't think - BUY IT.

(unless you have 2k spare for a Pio of course)

These are great - one of the best plasmas you can get short of getting a Pioneer.
#10
I got one just after Christmas (£450 but without the warranty) I can confirm that this is an excellent set. Forget that it isn't full HD, the picture quality is better than any LCD in this price range.

Do the deliver? If so how much, and did they have more stock?

I asked when I was looking at the 50" Panasonic last week and delivery was £30. I'd imagine it's the same regardless of the size of TV.

They do deliver, but I don't know how much it costs.

I got mine from the shop to my house in a taxi. Meaning that I didn't have to wait AND it was cheaper (£20). Make sure to get a black cab though, they're the only ones big enough. Also, a member of staff brought it to the taxi for me.

fantastic tv i got one from Dixons at xmas and it is superb

Top TV. I bought the PX60B 42" before the World Cup in 2006 and its fab. As already said if you can't afford a Pioneer this is the way to go.
#17
@ poster who said it's not full hd: it is! That is mis-leading. This is a great buy and is full hd.

I'll second that.
I bought mine just before christmas from Martin Dawes, £559 with 3yr guarantee. Also it is very energy efficient, running mine in eco-mode gives a picture I like it averages 150W (checked with power meter). You can't go wrong at that price cracking deal!

i ahve one of these a great tv

I got one of these earlier in the year for £440 but with only a 1 year guarentee. Would still buy at this price as it is a great TV

I don't think the warranty is Panasonics own, as that deal ended for sets bought instore by 31st December AFAIK.

Excellent TV! Had one for about 6 months and bought another for daughter in the Dixon's sales for £450!:w00t: [though only 1 year warranty]

The chap in HoF said it had been extended for them until the end of January, but things I've read elsewhere contradict this. I'd appreciate any confirmation.

Why has this been expired? As far as I know they still have it in stock at this price.

Same here - i delayed the delivery by a few weeks to see if it came down to closer to 450 in the sales but it never happened. Superb tv, remarkble on SD alone. Did side by side compares in store for wuite a time between the PX and PZ and unless you are sitting at 4ft or less away full HD makes no diff ON THIS SET. I would say may make a diff on other brands, but the antialiasing and SD quality on the pannys is so good it means the actual sets have this aspect to it.

No warranty on mine, but some cashback drove it down to 435. For that, i will take the punt as it saves enough for a freesat!

Because Plasma's are to be banned !?!?! :)

These evil planet wrecking monsters obviously need to go as they are surely the biggest energy using appliance's ever made ?.

Kind of think Sony and other LCD screen manufacturers are probably behind this ?.

Depends who you are watching..................

I've had a TH42PX60 for over two years and all sport is absolutely fine. No motion blur whatsoever.

Sorry, but that's sensationalist rubbish. The technology will be 'phased out' to make way for more energy saving means, although the panny's are said to be very good on energy, and especially save on darker scenes.

The fact many people prefer Plasma, makes this a great deal.

Yeah, those were announced years ago. Here's hoping there is some movement on them actually happening! Sounds like a fantastic technology, doesn't it?

Managed to go in and order this deal in the Glasgow HoF today. Last day of the offer today the guy said. They had to order me one in. Should be 1-2 weeks he said. Chuffed :)
