I've just searched dates in May and they're coming back @ £10 per night @ The 2* Sawasdee Smile Inn which is really close to Khaosan Road

Let's be honest, it's not 5*, it's not the most sensational looking place but for a base for travellers, it's ideal.

You might be able to take advantage of cathay/singapore airlines/ orbitz/ air new zealand flight sales..

Should go to homepage I think? Then search for Bangkok - the Hotel above comes up in the search

COLD, I think i've stayed at that dump and it's less than a tenner if you rock up on the day. It will be roasting in May in Bangkok.

I have stayed here, its ok like said for a base, but i stayed in may and it was soooooo hot, must have been 42 degrees about 98% humidity, was like staying on mars for a week

I think people exaggerate how hot it is in April/May; I've stayed during the summer twice and it wasn't that bad at all.

Voted cold also, never pre-book hotels in Thailand as everything is up for negotiation and the price will probably be cheaper when you're there.

i intend going to thialand in late october....ism the weather ok then...also is it still ok to get hotels when there? we intend to travel about a bit

There's a LOT better than this out there. If you want some bargains in Bangers - not for a tenner though - have a look here - http://www.latestays.com/

I'm always suspicious of anyone who has been to Thailand.

Karagh October is fine depending on which coast you go to, the andaman coast should be better in October, ast the Gulf coast is suffering from monsoon. I went in November to the Gulf Coast and got stuck on an island for 3 days due to weather, not that I minded of course :))

I hate it when I say I love Thailand to some people, they are like 'oh aye'. And there's always the ones that say 'oh I had a friend who went to Thailand and he pulled a girl and when he got her back to the hotel he had a nasty surprise!.

Thailand is great fun.

I was there last march/april and it was scorching, only be hotter in may. Getting close to monsoon season too so if travelling around I wouldnt go in may. As for the price, as others have said best to sort when you get there, you can easily barter a cheaper price. If you're gonna stay on Khao San Rd, make sure its not during the water festival, its a nightmare after a couple of days.

I seem to remember places near Khaosan Road being about this price for a luxury place. The cheap places were about £2 per night. That was only 6 years ago.

Why? We don't all travel 6000 miles to **** *****s on the cheap.

I lived there for 6 years, i never found the need to sleep with a Thai girl and believe me they are happy to take money from men or women.
It is all down to personal choice, but to make out everyone who visits the place is a sex tourist is rather narrow minded.

As for the deal, its not great. If i was choosing to stay in that area, a walk up negotiation would get me the best price. The weather in April is the hottest time, but you have the Songkran festival to cool you down during the middle of the month. To be honest, unless you live in Bangkok for work most people visit the sights and then head to the beaches or the north which have sea breezes or cooler temps..

Oh my god, I stayed in that place years ago, back in the day when you could get a room for about 2 quid a night! Khao San Road has changed a lot over the years, neon-tastic nowadays!

Suspicious of anyone going to thailand .. rofl

My wife and I go there now and then over the last 10 years to go sailing, waterfalls, beaches like you have never seen, snorkelling diving the andaman sea ...

Ahhh ... for my money lets hope more people see it that way and keep the secret and the SMILES alive
:-D

You sound the type who has never left the comfort of your armchair let alone another country..
