An excellent film! In this thrilling, underwater action-adventure from writer-director James Cameron, a civilian oil-rig crew is recruited to conduct a search-and-rescue effort when a nuclear submarine mysteriously sinks. One diver (Ed Harris) soon finds himself on a spectacular odyssey over 25,000 feet below the ocean's surface, where he confronts a mysterious force that has the power to change the world or destroy it...

Great film if it hasn't been cut to ribbons.

It does say "Special Features - Multi-story option: Theatrical/special edition versions" so will have the rubbish cinema release and the 'complete' Directors Cut. Run time is listed as 2h43m which is correct for the full version which is the ONLY VERSION TO WATCH. The 2 disc version is only a fiver too CLICKY

Indeed; the white rat actually being submerged in liquid fluorocarbon (and breathing it, filmed in real time) has been cut from almost every release of this film as this generation of waxing, hair-gelled, we-mustn't-offend-anyone's-sensibilities-namby-pamby-wasters has deemed such a scene too distressful and worthy of compensation claims.

Hint: the rat survived, as would anyone - humans are immersed in embryotic fluid in the womb for nine months........the body remembers.

A great film.

Actually, the scene has never been 'cut' from any release. It has however been re-framed and slightly trimmed so you don't see the rat being immersed in the liquid, nor in any distress afterwards. It was only ever cut in the UK on the insistence of the BBFC following a request from the British Veterinary Association. The scene is complete and unaltered in all other international releases.

A pal of mine was the lead diver on this movie.

Um.....how do you square up "the scene has never been 'cut' from any release" with "It was only ever cut in the UK"?

It certainly isn't on my Special Edition version?

If you define 'cut' as removed, then it wasn't. If you define 'cut' as edit then it was. In the UK only the image was re-framed so you could only see the actors and not the table-top where the rodent was being submersed in the liquid, and a couple of seconds of footage was removed after it was removed from the liquid which may have been interpreted as distress for the animal. The scene is still in the film, just not quite how it was originally released. All other international releases remained untouched. Either way, the alteration doesn't detract from the enjoyment of the film unless you want to be pedantic about censorship.

You're very confusing when you're making a point?

In your first sentence, you state the film wasn't cut but then contradict yourself in the second?

It's a great film but it WAS cut.

You should consider a career as a politician, your blurring of issues is quite outstanding :-D
