John, Paul, George and Ringo four lads who shook the world. This all new documentary special traces their humble beginnings in Liverpool to their eventual break up ten years later, using recently discovered film and video of the band, including home-movies, concert footage, newsreels and photographs from private collections. There are also interviews with those who surrounded the band and those who were there from the very start. Also included is an exclusive interview with fan and star in his own right, Phil Collins. This documentary is an honest account of what really happened. Includes additional contributions from: Steve Harley, Norman ''Hurricane'' Smith, Colin Hanton (their first drummer), Sam Leach (tour manager), Tony Barrow (press officer 1962-1968), Tony Bramwell (friend and roadie), Ken Dodd, Tony Booth, Gerry Marsden, Len Goodman and Sylvie Varten. For the first time we can see The Beatles relaxed, at play, on and off stage, on film and is a rare glimpse inside the lives of the most famous band in the world.

"This is an all singing, all dancing, newly packaged version with a special booklet written by Tony Barrow, The Beatles' Press Officer. If you want the latest version of this great DVD with an all new digital transfer with improved picture quality and sound, buy this rather than the 'Liberation' version.

A lot of nonsense has been written by reviewers about this superb DVD, probably because they weren't born when Lennon died, let alone understand why Sgt Pepper is so important: maybe they just don't get it!

The Beatles were and are the most important popular music band of the 20th Century; end of story.

RARE AND UNSEEN is a worthy contribution to their legacy. Who says so? Tony Barrow- the man who guided John, Paul, George and Ringo through the sixties and who wrote the sleeve notes- and he should know. Certainly there are elements in here that you won't see on Anthology- and for any self-respecting Beatles' fan this really has to be in the collection. After all, without it you won't have the earliest footage known, and you won't get to hear how Prime Minister Blair's father-in-law bought drugs with Lennon!

Get past the tv show skew of this DVD and examine what it actually has in it: The earliest footage of the band, never released in this digitally enhanced form; the only footage left of them in Scotland; the only home movie of them shot by the band in Jersey (in colour); colour film on stage in Paris. Then throw in some of the best interviews ever- with the likes of Phil Collins, Steve Harley and Len Goodman; plus stalwarts like Tony Barrow and Tony Branwell, plus Norman Smith, and you have an entertaining 90 minutes. For real Beatles' fans this is as perfect as it gets.

Buy it. "
