HMV put the price up, but have cut it again. Amazon has followed suit - useful for anyone with Amazon vouchers or Amazon Prime (in which case it ships from the UK, so you get it next day, plus with UK VAT paid),

P.S. Haven't watched it yet - am still reading the book (a signed hardback limited edition from Waterstones, another great HUKD!) to my offspring, who are enjoying it so far.

Good film - but could have been better - ending is awful ( in the way its horrible)

Kinda difficult to have a happy ending for an Auschwitz based story if it's to bear any relation to the horrible events that took place there, which is, I expect, the point of the story.

An ideal way to let older kids know about what happened during the holocaust.

It's about a boy and Auschwitsz...... you know from the very start it's going to be a tragic ending.

However, while the book was very good.....I personally thought the movie was very weak and gave no impression whatsoever of any of the awfulness of Auschwitz....it was badly directed and even more poorly acted.

A great shame...especially whne the book was so good.........

Voted HOT for the price though

Those of you who have seen the film and read the book which is better? Is it better to read the book or see the film? I like to read and picture things in my head rather then see a film that shows a poor interpretation.

i thought the movie was amazing. One of the very few movies in recent past which made my eyes moist (in the end). I am not really too much of a books person otherwise wud have loved to read this novel.

You could still give the book a go though!

Films vs. books is probably a bit like TV vs. radio - the pictures are better on the radio! :)

I often find the book is better than the film, or at least more detailed and satisfying. One example that comes to mind is The Day of the Jackal - I love the film, a real classic, but there's more in the book that isn't in the film. Worth the read even if you've seen the film in the case of the Jackal.

*****SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!! *****

People post spoilers WAY too freely on this site with films - shows a real ignorance for people who may want to see the film and get a bargain - it's likely they haven't seen it but want to.

It is *not* obvious that this film will have a tragic ending for the particular characters involved just because the death camps themselves were tragic. Life is Beautiful? Schindler's List?

I will still watch the film, but thanks for the spoilers...

I know "marley and me" doesnt compare at all to this topic but that book did have a lot more in it than the film showed - think i'll buy the book of this, thanks
