The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas DVD £3.99 at Amazon & Play

Price matched - next best nearly £1 more

Based on the best selling novel by John Boyne. Berlin, 1942 - Eight-year-old Bruno knows nothing of the Final Solution and the Holocaust. He is oblivious to the appalling cruelties being inflicted on the people of Europe by his country.

All he knows is that his father was promoted and he has been moved from a comfortable home in Berlin to a house in a desolate area where there is nothing to do and no-one to play with. Until he meets Shmuel, a boy who lives a strange parallel existence on the other side of the adjoining wire fence and who, like the other people there, wears a uniform of striped pajamas.

Bruno's friendship with Shmuel will take him from innocence to revelation, as their secret meetings result in a friendship that has startling and devastating consequences.

Really powerful movie. Unexpected favourite the year it was released for me. The DVD transfer is good as well - really nice picture quality.

My fear with films like this is that people forget about the book. This is a very good film, but the book is better. I recommend that everyone who liked this film considers picking up the book. It can be picked up for about the same price as the film, if not less. It's also short as books go (less than 300 pages if I remember rightly) and really is worth the time to read through.

amazing film , this should be shown in schools -to educate children about the evils of organised (English spelling) segregation and religion .

I cried buckets! Had not read the book so was extremely shocked at the ending, couldn't believe it was a kids film.
Well worth watching.

Wanted to see this but haven't got around to it yet.
Trailer makes it look like a 'must see'.

Everyone should watch this. I agree it should be compulsory viewing for school history lessons.

My 13 yr old Daughter did get to see this at school in her History lesson, she came home and told me all about it.
