You done alright for yourself aint ya pops, what do you think i am some sort of c**t. Classic.

Love all four of the films. ;)

Pretty good considering they all sell for about £10 individually.

Will this not negate the whole purpose of Blu-Ray. To fit four films onto a blu ray disc, they will have to be compressed more than if each were on a single disc. I am struggling to think how this would NOT reesult in a lower quality encode.

It says on Amazon it is 4 discs mate.
#12
Four excellent films. Would be bargain if it was a DVD box nevermind a Blu Ray set. Heat added.
#13
Ordered, cheers. Been wanting Trainspotting on Blu-ray for a while, others are a bonus!
#14
"Number of discs: 4 "

I stand corrected. Good Deal!

Info http://www.cine-vue.com/2010/09/dvd-releases-brit-indie-collection-4.html

2 great films (Trainspotting/Sexy Beast), 1 mediocre (Shallow Grave) and one a POS (Gangster No1).

Still, an absolute bargain. Thanks to the OP.

Wasn't particularly impressed by Gangster No.1 but I was certainly impressed by the performance of Eddie Marsan in this movie, really felt sorry for the guy he played the part of ....:(

Edit:
Although a good film, I don't rate Trainspotting that highly - I'd give it 6/10 but hey the book is 11/10 ;)

Thanks, been looking for Gangster No1 for a while, hope the transfers good.

OK, guy reviewed this set on YouTube:

Can't post the link as he also reviews some pretty dodgy looking stuff. Just search yourself.

Those are the DVDs of course but no reason to assume the Blu-rays are any different packaging-wise.

Looks like Amazon may have priced these up as DVDs because there's a small difference in the title name when you search Amazon.

Hope they arrive! :D

I thought Sexy Beast was overrated but I did like Gangster No.1 though. The other two are a class above.
Excellent deal. I see it's already moved to No.6 in the Amazon Box Set chart.

dvd version available for £ 9.13 on amazon marketplace

A Blu-Ray Disc has a capacity of 50gb.

A HD movie takes up about 10gb. How would this result in massive compression? Even if it was on 1 disc it would be a good deal.

This site is costing me a fortune :)

cracking deal. i'm skint and didn't need to spend anymore but i had to get this. all the films are cracking. trainspotting is one of my faves, shallow grave is also cracking, sexy beast is great, and gangster no1 is also great, none of them are poor films in the slightest

what will be great for a lot of people is they might be buying for one or two of the films in particular and then enjoy the other two, g1 isn't so well known, and there might still be people who haven't seen sexy beast, so they are in for a treat, great cast and great acting

A HD movie you download may be under 10gig, but most of my retail blu's are between 20gig and 40gig just for the film, not inc menus/extras, you can get HD under 5 gig and course you could fit 4 movies on one disc but that dont mean its going to have good bitrate, bitrate = quality by the way.
#27
Up to no.2 in the Amaon box set chart now, thanks for posting will definitely be getting one!
#28

#29

So is this upscaled DVD repackaged onto a blu ray? Fairly sure Trainspotting wasn't shot in HD.

Will there be a big difference between playing this on my PS3, and playing the corresponding DVDs on the PS3, which upscales anyways?

all the movies were shot on film, which is an analogue format with a far higher picture quality than the highest HD format that exists (one that isn't available to the consumer yet). you can take a film and blow it up to the size of a building and it looks great. that's what happens when you see the movie in the cinema. so converting film to HD formats gives you a "HD" movie. they don't take a dvd and upscale it, they go back to the original film stock and create a new HD digital master

so if you play the bluray on your ps3 and then compare to the dvd, as long as you have a decent panel and your system is setup properly you should notice the difference. even if you had a crap telly, as long as it was HD you should notice the difference. it might not stand out as obvious as VHS compared to dvd, but with a good setup you will notice a sharper picture and more vibrant colours (as long as it's a reasonable transfer)

Was going to order this, but the Trainspotting blu ray still gets bad reviews due to the transfer.

Yeah, they were shot on 35mm film which exceeds the detail possible on 1080p video.

Even if it was just the other 3 films £14 is a good price. Why not buy it for them, then judge the Trainspotting transfer yourself

it surely can't be worse than the dvd? it can't be so bad the movie is unwatchable? surely the quality must be of some improvement over the dvd? it's only £14 for 4 great movies

Transferring films to blu ray sometimes results in poor quality picture due to studios doing it on the cheap (Robocop, Gladiator and the original Predator blu ray are examples). The difference betweem this blu ray and the DVD is not a poorer resolution to make it the same as the DVD, the blu rya picture can sometimes be too dull, picture too sharp and jaggy, the source has not been a film, but has been an upscaled DVD. So upgrading to blu ray to get a higher resolution picture, but it has issues, in this case is pointless.

i had a quick google for reviews of the UK bluray and couldn't see any bad comments, in fact i read the video and sound were pretty good. maybe another bluray release such as the american one isn't as good?

has anyone had this shipped or delivered yet btw?

Defo the UK special edition that was released last year. To be honest, people may not notice.
