Playing God has its consequences, which is the theme of the tricky time-travel shockfest THE BUTTERFLY EFFECT. J. Mackye Gruber and Eric Bress, who share writing and directing credits, make a splash with a gripping script that never fails to throw twists and loops into the plot. Both thematically and visually, the film is similar to the perfect commercial filmmaking in the team's script for FINAL DESTINATION II.
Here, Evan Trehorn (Ashton Kutcher) is a college student who has suffered from blackouts and memory loss since he was a child. Tormented by deeply repressed childhood memories, he has visions of his best friend and first love Kayleigh (Amy Smart) as a child (Irene Gorovaia) whose Dad (Eric Stoltz) is a child molester, and whose brother Tommy has a serious sadistic streak. In search of greater clarity, Evan pores over his journals and is physically transported back in time where he is still a young boy (John P. Amedori) and has the ability to change what happened. But soon he realises that changing history has caused calamitous results elsewhere. A mesmerising thriller with a dark underlying mystery, THE BUTTERFLY EFFECT is delightfully chilling.

Watched this movie again yesterday, Such a great plot. There are 2 endings to this film aswell (not sure if both are on this dvd ?), I would recommend the directors cut ending personally.

If you're going to get both, it's actually slightly cheaper to buy the boxset at SendIt (£5.89) or any of The Hut group. :)

Love this film. Although the ending on the DVd is different than the one I seen on TV. I preferred the one I seen on TV.

At last count, I think there were 14 different endings for this film.;-)

Great price for a great film. First time i seen this i couldn't take my eyes off it, keeps you thinking too. Like others have said with the different endings, i'm not a lover of the directors cut one.

Heat & Rep left, going to buy it now :)

For me, the directors cut ending is the only one that makes any sense, because the hidden implication is that its happened again and again, to lots of unborn lives. The happy cinema ending isnt consistent to the dark and honest tone of the rest of the film, and is just stupid.

At risk of coming close to posting a spoiler, there is another ending that is somewhere between the two endings you have mentioned.

This move is fantastic. Definitely inspired the makers of 'Lost'

great find biker jeff . But i have a question? How did you locate this dvd....The reason I ask is that it is not in the 2.99 dvd section.

Was is in stock when you found it? Did you search specifically for it?

I was actually searching for Butterfly Effect 2 at the time, and then came across the original one at this cheap price so thought i'd post it on here.

Butterfly Effect 2 is nothing compared to the original. Second ones more of a B movie, but definitely if you haven't seen this I'd recommend it. It's a very deep film.
