Vin Diesel reprises his role as enigmatic anti-hero, Richard B. Riddick, previously seen in the cult classic Pitch Black, now available on special edition. Riddick finds himself on the Planet Helion, home to a progressive multi-cultural society that has been invaded by the Lord Marshal (Colm Feore), a despot who targets humans for subjugation with his army of lethal warriors known as the necromongers.

Exiled to a subterranean prison where temperatures range from deathly freezing nights to blistering, volcanic days Riddick meets a face from the past in Kyra (Alexa Davalos), the lone survivor from an earlier chapter in his life, now a hardened convict. Riddick plots their escape only to unwittingly lead them to the Necromonger command ship and an apocalyptic confrontation with the Lord Marshal, which will determine the fate of the universe.

Written and directed by the critically acclaimed David Twohy, The Chronicles of Riddick features a stellar supporting cast including Thandie Newton as Dame Vaako, the beautiful and ruthlessly ambitious wife of Commander Vaako, Dame Judy Dench as Rereon, an ambassador for the mysterious race of Elementals and Karl Urban as Commander Vaako, a loyal warrior whose loyalty to the Lord Marshal is tested by his manipulative wife.

I know this was never going to be as good as 'Pitch Black', but it was a big dumb action sci-fi, and I loved every minute of it.

So nice to see some love for the Riddick trilogy. I loved all three films and would prod any sci-fi fans into grabbing this as long as you get Pitch Black and Dark Fury to go with it.

Pitch Black

Dark Fury

Chronicles of Riddick

It's a real treat to watch all three back to back as they seamlessly connect into one epic of a movie.

8/10 or 9/10 if you watch with someone who hates Vin Diesel because they only saw the nasty XXX. A bonus point for observing someone becoming a new diesel fan.
