From Out Of Space... A Warning And An Ultimatum!

A spacecraft lands in Washington D.C. and an alien emerges, flanked by a menacing robot with destructive capabilities far beyond anyone's imagination. So begins the science-fiction thriller The Day The Earth Stood Still, a classic "atomic movie" from the 50s that would go on to inspire alien-invasion films for decades to come. Rebuffed in his efforts to meet the world's leaders and warn them of the earth's impending doom, the alien, Klaatu (Michael Rennie), takes to the streets.

Klaatu's plea for peace is embraced by a pretty, young woman (Patricia Neal) and an eminent scientist (Sam Jaffe), but the rest of humanity reacts with mistrust, fear and violence. With time running out, Klaatu is forced to demonstrate his awesome powers in a mind-boggling display, teaching all of mankind a lesson for the ages. Watch The Day The Earth Stood Still and and you will never forget these words - "Klaatu barada nikto!"

Fantastic film - shown to be even more so by that disasterous remake!

But is it worth the Blu Ray premium? Is this a better transfer than a DVD version? (genuine question not just my normal luddite tendencies comming through ;-))

Klaatu barada nikto

The remake was almost as bad as the Wicker Man job. But at least the WM remake could be looked on as a comedy.

I was about to warn people not to buy thinking this was the remake, but if it's the original you're good to go imo.

Good grief, I don't understand how something as awful as the remake ever got released though I suppose they needed to recoup the money they wasted on it somehow...

This was the crapest film I have seen in ages.

Sci fi classic, well worth a punt.
Thank god its not the remake, which is quite possibly the worse film ive EVER seen!

When I saw the remake I was shocked by how bad it was gotta get around to seeing this!

Keena Reeves didn't do a lot in the remake - just talking mainly - probably because you expect action after seeing him in the Matrix.

Remake wasn't as good by a long shot. People who criticize the original should remember that this movie was make in 1951.

Klaatu Barada Nikto has been mentioned in two movies: TDTESS and Army of Darkness: The Medieval Dead aka Evil Dead 3
