'The Day Today' was hailed as a landmark in British television which made it impossible to watch the news without laughing like mad. Following its transmission in January 1994, hordes of seasonal newscasters resigned in shame as the programme scientifically proved their jobs were wrong.

Anchorman Christopher Morris had been fired from ITN in 1989 for using make up on disaster victims, but was hired by The Day Today for precisely the same reason. Collatallie Sisters single-handedly revolutionized business news with the graphic finance arse. Sportscaster Alan Partridge was amiable enough and Peter O'Hanraha'hanrahan won repeated awards for dreadful persistence!

Well worth getting if you don't have it already

Buy buy buy. One of the funniest shows ever, and not the least bit dated after all this time. Although watching the news these days is very much like watching this show, except the news has more stupid graphics flying around.

THIS IS THE NEWSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!

If youve never heard of it buy it NOW! If you liked 'Alan Partridge' humour then you'll love this....

I wonder if it includes the snip its that used to be on advertising the programme. These were about 4-5 mins long featuring some characters like "Uzi MC" who was a rapper who used to kill people live on stage.....one of the funniest sketches ever...... (hope it will be on the extras)

Already bought this from Amazon before seeing this posting.
I had seen a couple of episodes when they were repeated last year (?) and thought they were very funny. I have to say watching the whole DVD series that it's a bit hit and miss for me. Some of it is hillarious and some of it is just too daft to laugh at. I am working my way through the Brass Eye DVD and find that consistently funnier, but everyone's different. I managed to get £5 off each DVD using a Zavvi voucher and an Amazon voucher.

lol

you just proved his point professor

its media darwinsim. what sells survives. and what sells is what makes people feel good about themselves. and that is currently anything that allows people to pretend they're libertarians when in fact they're neo-fascists.

in short. the whole setup is so skewed that you call someone a bigot for expressing non bigoted views- ie. someone shows contempt for those who hate straight males, and you assume they are prejudiced against the opposite.

perhaps he does, but nothing in what he said would make anyone unbiased think so.

just ignore sun-readers, don't dream up more of them so you have a nice simple enemy against which to measure your heroics

Yes quite. Moving on: The Day Today is quality & funny TV, a steal at 7 quid (or less). Recently discovered the Radio 4 series as well, which is just as good and almost all different material from the BBC2 show.

YES, IT'S WAR

So you obviously think this is a news boxset.

This astutely picked up on the news being more about entertainment, scaremongering and control than it was about fact. Cutting, funny and scary all at the same time.
Brass Eye, genius also.
It's a shame they treat Chris Morris as they did Spike Milligan.

Charlie Brooker is a good watch on BBC3.
