This epic look at the Vietnam War and its effects told through the lives of a tight knit group of friends from a Pennsylvania town was Michael Cimino's second film and established him in the pantheon of American directors. Complex and emotionally raw performances from Robert De Niro and Meryl Streep earned each an Academy Award nomination, and Christopher Walken's portrayal of Nick, who survives capture but is unable to escape its trauma, is a tour de force that earned him the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. With a keen eye for nuance and a carefully structured script, Cimino interweaves the rituals great and small that make up the lives of his characters, creating a poignant sense of what remained constant and what was forever changed by their experience of the war

Oh God - first watched that film on the old Betamax Video system in the early 80's probably... And I was certainly a lot younger than the X Rated Certificate that it had.....
.....Fantastic film, but at the time it scared the pants off me! Ouch - not nice!

Have some heat from me Andywedge!

Not The Two Disc Spec Edition So It's A No From Me...

£2.99 delivered is an excellent price. Shame it isn't the 2 disc version with the director's commentary.

The Deer Hunter is my favorite film ever. Michael Cimino, the director, also wrote the script for the superb sci-fi film Silent Running. Then he directed Heaven's Gate, which is possibly the worst film ever made. It almost bankrupted United Artists and destroyed his career overnight. Awesome!

Ordered and heated. Well spotted Andy and the wee hamster!

I actually lived in Pennsylvania for a few years, so I wonder if any of this was filmed there? I will be looking out for familiar scenery when I rewatch it.

EDIT: I Googled it and the filming in the USA was done in Pittsburgh and Cleveland, Ohio. Also Washington State.
