I'm fairly certain that only a very few people will have any interest in this which is a great shame because The Durutti Column are one of this country's musical treasures that remain seriously underappreciated even after 30 years.

But this is a GREAT bargain - all five albums from the last eight years with bonus tracks for under £9 delivered (next cheapest appears to be Play @£9.99) - also it's a limited edition of 1000. If you are seriously interested in music, or even if you only pretend to be, then give yourselves an early Christmas treat :-)

Contains:
Rebellion
Someone Else's Party
Keep Breathing
Idiot Savants
Love In The Time of Recession

There seems to be some conflicting info online as to whether this is a 5 or 6 disc set - I got mine today and it's definitely 5 discs... so Amazon's description is incorrect.

I met up with them a few years ago at the Tsunami gig at the Manchester Apollo.

Cool,beautiful music heat added.

I like some of their stuff - always reminds me of Vini Reilly - the guitarist on "Suedehead" by Morrissey.

Eh?:-D

Good find OP. I haven't listened to Durutti Column for years, so all these albums are new to me ;-)

why are you laughing? I think he's correct. I just listend to several songs on Morrissy's Vive Hate album and they do indeed sound similar! Especially everyday is like sundae.

Yeah - the Column are a bunch of total rip-off merchants. Check out some of their later Factory albums and hear them plagiarise Moby's innovative use of samples... thieving gits!

No offence meant...I just assumed that anyone who'd actually got round to listening to Durutti Column must know that Vini Reilly is Durutti Column

Ordered, thanks.

Seems ridiculously cheap for a new release - each album costs about the same to buy individually.

I know. I actually pre-ordered it from another place at £13.99 thinking it was a misprice :? That was still a bargain. I hope there hasn't been some horrendous cock-up back at Column HQ - I sort of work in the music industry and while of course not everything has to be produced in the name of making money, on a mere 1000 copies the profit margin bust be so incredibly slender as to be almost pointless.

From what I can gather from reviews, his later stuff doesn't quite live up to his earlier stuff (although I haven't heard any of these albums), so maybe they're hoping a box set might sell better?..:?

Well I suppose to a certain extent I'd agree but you get that with most artists - see also Frank Black and yer Andy Partridge - but they have never stopped being less than interesting and occasionally still manage to throw out something that stands along with their best. It's all subjective of course :) .

Vini wrote much of the music and played some of the music on Morriseys first album FACT.

He is a musical genius and quite simply you should buy this collection. Described by many as one of the worlds great guitarists.

Seriously buy this and then buy the rest of his work.......
