Sadly, for whatever reason, you just can't get hold of Ed Wood (Jnr) DVD's over here in good old blighty. So praise be for Amazon and praise be for multi region DVD players. Also, although you are buying this from "Amazon" you are buying it from a seller who sells via Amazon. But, I figured that it's a must have, at least, in any "serious" film fans collection.
How did Ed Wood come to be called ''the worst director of all time'' when there are so many in the running? Probably because his brand of bad is so non-threatening kind of like watching an elementary school play. Wood remains approachably inept in the six movies (including Glen or Glenda, Bride of the Monster, and Plan 9 From Outer Space) included in The Ed Wood Collection: A Salute to Incompetence (Unrated, 450 mins., 1953-59). Even Glen's outlandish modern-dance-style gender-confusion sequence featuring Wood regular Bela Lugosi and the devil is really only about the auteur's love of angora. In a suitably shaggy doc, Wood muse Dolores Fuller says she got the part because she auditioned in, yes, angora, and that Sarah Jessica Parker ''didn't bother to do any research'' when she played Fuller in Tim Burton's 1994 biopic Ed Wood. Lugosi's aplomb in the face of a 1955 fresh-from-rehab interview is astounding, as is the story of the 300-pound perennial Wood monster Tor Johnson dangling him from a window.
