"The Game" recounts the incredible adventures of an everyday man who transforms himself from a shy, awkward writer into the quick-witted, smooth-talking Style, a character irresistible to women. But just when life is better than he could have ever dreamed (he uses his techniques on Britney Spears, receives life coaching from Tom Cruise, moves into a mansion with Courtney Love and is officially voted the World's Number One Pickup Artist) he falls head over heels for a woman who can beat him at his own game.

This was an amazing read. I'd really recommend it for women who are interested in men's pick up lines, so they can spot their techniques and avoid being manipulated..

and I'd really recommend it for men who want to learn pick up techniques..

It's also just a great story.

The emphasis on the word 'Story'. Not sure if I believe it all.

I don't think there is anything to do with manipulation here. Everyone has a choice...do i stay or go, yes/no etc everybody has that free choice. Although there is some substance to this story, this is a self improvement story.

Check out Gambler, much more down to earth and realistic, just self improvement for men, thats all it is. FInd me one woman who says they wouldn't like men to be more confident etc...

Dig out the TV shows on MTV to see the guys in the book do the things in the book on camera.

I also don't believe it is manipulation either. The kind of guys that buy this book are romantic, devoted, honest and shy singles, the kind of guy that women say they want to meet, yet would brush off in the club if he could ever pluck up the courage to talk to her.

It is not about being a playboy, just gives you the conversational structure you need to communicate with the crazy wiring in a woman's brain.

Great book, and Joylove put it perfectly. Of course, it can be used to manipulate but on the other hand it does really help shy guys know a bit more about talking to a girl when she is with a bunch of friends for example.

If you're interested check some of the videos out. http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=mystery+pick+up&search_type=&aq=f

Mystery is the guy the author of the book idolises pretty much.

Giving 'neg's' to girls to undermine their sense of self and out them in a position where they want to get your approval back and are grateful to get it ... that isnt manipulation?

in what universe?!

The PUA's say, themselves, their techniques dont work on girls with high self esteem, what they call "10's".. hence NeilStrauss having to drop his game to win his actual girlfriend, and relate to her without running scripts and 'playing it cool'.

I havent read this book but I have listened to the audio CD. Its a great story and a good starter for those who have no clue with the fairer sex. If you want proper tips though you are probably better off reading the one by Mystery or Gambler.

Its not what I would call manipulation but more a psyhcology for men whom previously perhaps thought that being nice to a woman was the way to her heart. In fact through these books I learned that its not being nice, its being confident which matters most.

The follow up has also been reduced to £2.99 http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/438217/the-rules-of-the-game-book-by-neil-/

the only thing this book is good for is convincing shy people to actually, you know, talk to females. What do you know, it actually works sometimes :o So they read it and filled with confidence they go and talk to a girl and the girl see's someone who is confident AND talking to her.

All the stuff about negs / how to act in it is just ********. 2,99 for abook isn't bad though.

The real world is a complicated place, you'd be naive to think "do you come here often?" cuts the conversational mustard these days.

Moreover, just because a girl has T&A, do you have to be continuously flattering her? If it was a man, would you bend over backwards to continuously buff their ego just to converse with them? Course not. So why have double standards?
