The Godfather: (1972)
Considered by many to be the greatest movie ever made, Francis Ford Coppola's epic masterpiece features Oscar winner Marlon Brando as the head of the Corleone family. Coppola paints a chilling portrait of a Sicilian family's rise and near fall from power in America, and the passage of rites from a father to a son who was previously uninvolved in the business.

Godfather Part II: (1974)
The Godfather Part II is one of the rare breed of cinematic sequels which is as good as, and perhaps better than, the original. Al Pacino heads the star cast as Michael Corleone, heir to the criminal empire established by his Mafioso father, the late Don Corleone.

Michael is now in charge of all gambling activities in Nevada, making certain that any and all political or mob enemies are quickly bought off, compromised, or disposed of. Throughout the film, Michael's travails are paralleled with the early experiences of his father, played in flashbacks by Robert DeNiro.

The Godfather III: (1990)
In the final instalment of the Godfather Trilogy, an aging Don Michael Corleone seeks to legitimise his crime family's interests and remove himself from the violent underworld.

Now in his sixties, Michael is dominated by two passions: freeing his family from crime, and finding a suitable successor. That successor could be fiery Vincent (Andy Garcia)... but he may also be the spark that turns Michael's hopes of business legitimacy into an inferno of mob violence.

Note that the 2nd film seems to have a generic problem

Approx 1h40m it stops and fast forwards to aprox 2h12m.

very good price, for a person used to the fast paced action of Goodfellas and the Sopranos, I feel like I should enjoy these out of respect, but just dont - they are too damn slow!

Goodfellas is, well, one of the best movies ever made.

These are three (two at least) of the best Gangster movies ever made. Maybe like a fine wine, they improve with age ie give them another chance - darn fine films

+1 for Goodfellas, my favorite movie of all time!

Couldnt resist.
I get the deal of the day email anyway but thanks for the heads up. Get in there before the floods of people order.

Be aware that there is a problem with the Part 2 disc. Doesn't look like its been rectified yet looking at the reviews.

This is what I was thinking when buying this.

Surely Play.com would have returned the "bad batch" and got new ones in. Surely they wouldn't keep selling a product known to be faulty to make themselves some money. Nothing would surprise me...

This is weird as i have the box set with the number on the side that apparently has the disc skip problem but never experienced it myself, Maybe it's the player you have that causes the problem ? (i have the sony bdp s350)

A stunnning price for two brilliant films......and one good-ish one! Heat and Rep.
#12
I ordered this when it was £17.99 through another forum. Mine was ordered same time as a bunch of others, has the same id marks on the external packing & despite numerous efforts to force the "skipping" to happen, I just couldn't so it appears to be pot luck. My player is a SONY BDP 363 or 360 or summat. You can apparently get replacement "disk2"s from Technicolour. Ace price & awesome films - apart from the last one!
#13
So is this set worth getting on Blu Ray or shall I stick to the DVD collection? If there isn't a lot of difference I may stick with the DVD format. Any opinions?

Brilliant price. Been considering upgrading my DVD set at the 17.95 or so it has been recently, but absolutely couldn't resist at this price. Now to find someone who wants to give it to me for Christmas! :)

...or maybe it is because you both have Sony Blu-ray machines.

...or maybe this is the "Player's Cut" (as opposed to "The Director's Cut")... the machine decides the on-screen scenes are getting boring & moves you on to something more exciting.

Before long we'll all have cameras hooked up to our visual display equipment & they will sense when we are nodding-off watching a pre-recorded movie disc that is 3 hours & 20 minutes in length (!) & either switch off or put something less boring on instead.

I've tried to watch "Blade Runner" four times now & slept through it on every occasion. I don't remember anything but the first few minutes. With the new TV-camera gadget I may get to see it one day! :)

This site gives good reviews on picture and audio quality. Not sure if the audio is the same as the US but the picture will be.

Can you get it cheaper without III ? The most disappointing film ever.

But i didn't have the skip problem if you read the comment :?

So is disc 2 Godfather part 2? If it was a fault on part 3 I wouldnt care as its crap, but part 2 is by far the best of the trilogy.
Last time I bought this on VHS it was all set in chronological order so tape 2 was a bit of Godfather 1 & 2.

...yes, I know... if you read the two comments I quoted, I was highlighting that out of the two instances (of which you were one) where the cutting/skipping did not occur you both had Sony Blu-ray players (as opposed to a player from another manufacturer).

I also bought this set from Play last week. It has the same barcode/serial number that matches the 'bad' batch however I have not noticed the problem. I am using my PS3 so it might support fanpages theory that it is ok on Sony machines.

Also, the picture and audio quality compared to the original DVD release is significantly improved, especially on larger screens. I cannot judge compared to the Coppolla restoration DVD but as far as the original release goes there is a mark improvement.

Hope that help some of you guys to order!! Bargain at this price IMO
#23
After having a quick look around it looks as though ALL players can be affected by this problem. Theres reviews of people having the error on their PS3's (even when tried on multiple consoles), so dont feel too confident if you have a sony player/PS3.

Might be worth emailing Play before purchasing to check if you will be sent one of the defect batch, or go to Amazon as it looks as though they have sorted the issue and no longer ship the problem batch.

This has gotten alot more heat than it should, people should read the comments before just looking at the title and buying. £14.95 for the possibility of receiving two thirds of a box set then having to go through the refund/return process isnt exactly a great deal. Shame because otherwise it would be!
#24
Great deal. I have a PS3 and dont get the skipping, so may be pot luck I guess. Great upgrade over the dvd, and the added bonus is that you get the whole of Part 2 on the one disc (as opposed to part 2 being split on 2 dvd discs).
Also, alot of the bonus disc is in HD also, which is fantastic as this really is the best bonus disc your likely to see on the format to date

Nice price, glad I waited, have a feeling though it may hit £9.99, but will grab it now.

To be fair they did warn you in advance of a potential problem with the item.

Out of interest what is the make & model of your Blu-ray player?

Thanks.

Not sure why you think owning a 40Gb PS3 is funny... but which version of the firmware (System Software) are you running?

The only person who would read the Customer Reviews would be the one person responsible for removing the comments that are deemed too controversial or harmful to their business.
