yeah she kept changing her accent.....posh/rough council estate/Handsworth/Irish........just like Lily 'I've had a tough life yet both my Dad & Stepdad are loaded' Allen.

Imranmaz - swap Handsworth for Kentish Town:thumbsup:

I really liked The Golden Compass but I know a lot of people really didn't. It did get me to go and read Northern Lights and the other His Dark Materials books so it must have had some effect on me. It's not a perfect adaptation of the book by any means but it is at the very least, lovely to look at and deservedly won it's Oscar/BAFTA for special effects.

Aye, it's not a bad adaptation of the book, but could have been better. Just picked it up on Blu-Ray for £16.

Appalling film where key characters are only introduced to the lead main character to the next story element with no real interaction. Film making by numbers, written in a very large font. Completely dumb and destined for the HMV bargain bin.

Yes, that's a good description of a flaw with the movie - the book has a lot more "filler" between scenes that obviously had to be chopped, much to the detriment of the finished article. I also didn't feel that Tom Courtenay was a faithful casting choice for Farder Coram.

Aside from that it was enjoyable enough.

Watchable, but it's going to be in 3 for £15 before you can say 'box office flop' so I'd wait a few weeks. :-D

Someone said it above, but I'd forgotten about the girl's accent in it being all over the place. Haha, it was hilarious sometimes. It was like "Oh dear, we really ought to rush over there and help those poor blighters by smashin' their 'eads in wiv an 'ammer, innit?"

Worst film of last year for me......I'm a big movie fan and go to the cinema at least once a week and have done for the past 15 years.......but in all that time I've never fell asleep at the flicks. Until now! I had a good 15 minutes mid way through and that was the hightlight for me.:)

Good price though......so heat & rep added on the basis that folk that have seen and enjoyed it would like to know this great deal.

Was thoroughly unimpressed with this movie, got about 40 minutes in before I had to just give it up. Very, very boring.

this is also £8 in store too as i have just bought it from the Bracknell store

books are amazing. then some numpty ruins it. Worth watching though. hopefully the second one will get made and an improvement will show

Anyone know the cheapest for the 2-disc? I know ASDA have it for £14.97.

I thought this film was great. It was a flop in America but everywhere else it wasn't. I'd read the books first and though it didn't strictly follow the book, i think it's been done the way it is to make it best for film and they succeeded. Excellent film, go buy it.
