Harry Patch, 108 years old, was the last British soldier alive to have fought in the trenches of the First World War. From his vivid memories of an Edwardian childhood, the horror of the Great War and fighting in the mud during the Battle of Passchendaele, working on the home front in the Second World War and fame in later life as a veteran, "The Last Fighting Tommy" is the story of an ordinary man's extraordinary life.

Definately recommend this book - read it last year and its really, really good. Gives a better view of what the soldiers had to endure and it makes you realise that the millions killed in the war had real lives and stories of their own, they weren't just numbers to be used as cannon fodder.

Bought this at full price when it first came out, it s a nice read about a country guy who is forced to face things he never wanted and how he dealt with it. The war is only a small apart of his story but he was a really nice genuine guy and it comes out in the book.
A good 2.99's worth

Thank you I've just ordered this book for my dad has he is a X solider and loves anything about the army

It's as much about his childhood, life before and after both world wars. I still believe he should of been given a state funeral as our last link to that conflict.

craking deal

This is a fab deal and i look forward to reading it.
Just finished 'Somme Mud' which is a similar recollection of life in the trenches from an Aussie soldier fighting shoulder to shoulder with the Brits in WW1, very graphic, very sobering..............
