In the savage and deadly world of the gangland king, the man at the top is ruler, but only as long as he controls everything in his territory. For that man, the rewards can be infinate, but so are the dangers. Harold Shand (Bob Hoskins) is enjoying the height of his powers, and he is on the verge of something which would make his current `arrangements' small fry. But stronger forces than even he can control have moved in and taken over. Climaxing in one long bloody day of terror, an Easter Good Friday, he is to see his empire begin to crack and crumble.

Superb film, good find.
great film ,anyone confirm the bluray quality on this

Seems to be a step up from the DVD in terms of picture quality, but not much has been done to the source print in terms of cleaning it up.

Now without sitting and watching the feature from start to finish don't consider this a definitive assessment, but initial thoughts are it certainly looks crisper than the SD version and has a good layer of fine grain throughout, but there has been no attempt to 're-master' the image as far as I can tell- specks and pops are throughout the picture. Also I noted the opening credits feature the some of the worst telecine wobble I have ever seen. It appears to settle down after the opening moments but creeps in a couple of times later. (I don't recall this on the SD-DV

There is a massive jump in quality over all previous dvd releases. Contrast is terrific (although a bit boosted making for a some red push) and combined with plenty of grain make it a very film like experience for the first time on home theater. I compared it to the UK 2002 dvd release, and it seemed like a veil of dirt, brown muckus and compression artifacts had been lifted on the BD.

excellent film wish they had made the follow up they talked about a couple of years ago.....seems funny seeing a young pierce brosnon playing an ira hit man....
Unfortunately some reports say that the picture has had it's aspect ratio tampered with and is, in spite of the slightly superior picture, inferior to the special edition DVD release bacuse of this.
as its out of stock its no longer a bargain.
Call yourselves the Mafia? I s**t 'em.
Back up to £5.99, still a bargain though.
