Probably the cheapest online but not a massive deal when there are 5 other retailers all selling this for under a tenner

Quite cheap now, I remember paying about £12 for this a few years back. I guess there are so many other extended and special versions available, they get rid of the basic ones.

good deal for good movies though.

Anyone who likes these movies owes it to themselves to get the extended versions. They are better versions of the movies even if you ignore the bajillions of extra features.

I've looked at all those movies & there the same price at all the online retailers (thehut, amazon, sendit, lovefilm ,etc). I'm very surprised your post got so hot to be honest.

people need to use movie search engines really such as link below:

I've never seen the extended versions, How much extra footage is there approx in each movie ?.
5 mins, 10 mins, 30 mins ?

Does it add alot more to the movies in the sense of plot development or are they just extra scenes which don't really add that much to the plot (please be honest about if they add much to the plot)

Are the battle scenes longer aswell ?

FOTR has 22 minutes extra. It's been so long since I saw the shorter cuts I can't remember all the differences, but there are many added scenes to bring the films closer to the books, such as the giving of gifts by Galadriel. TTT has 35 minutes extra and ROTK 40+ minutes. I can't watch the shorter cuts as I get annoyed at the missing scenes, so if I stumble upon them being shown on TV I switch them off.

The US R1 versions (if you have a multi-region player) have much nicer packaging, and FOTR and TTT both contain a hidden clip; FOTR has an "MTV Spoof" (starring Sarah Michelle Gellar and Jack Black) about Frodo using The Ring for a Prince Albert piercing) and TTT has a clip of Gollum accepting an MTV movie award and launching into a tirade of abuse about Peter Jackson. If you don't care about packaging or the clips, then just get the UK R2 versions.

If you have a reasonably good surround sound system then don't buy the 'Limited Edition' versions as they don't have DTS ES 6.1 which is awesome on all three movies. The 'Platinum Edition 4 Disc Extended Editions' are reference grade AV surround experiences IMHO.

Thanks for the detailed answer as thats very helpful, It sounds like i will enjoy the extended versions alot when i watch them due to the plot expansion.
Will probably wait to see if they get released on bluray this year unless i see the extended dvd boxet for £10 or less in the meantime.

Thanks again

Best movie trilogy ever made - nay some of the greatest blockbusters ever made.

Way better than the original Star Wars Trilogy imo.
