The Lord Of The Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy - Special Extended DVD Edition (12 Discs)

£17.99 @ Play
£17.37 @ DVD.co.uk - thanks to Alena

The Fellowship Of The Ring: In a time before history, in a place called Middle-earth, a dark and powerful lord has brought together the forces of evil to destroy its cultures and enslave all life caught in his path. Sauron's time has come and he needs only one small object - a Ring that has been lost for centuries - to snuff out the light of civilization and cover the world in darkness.

The Two Towers: The Fellowship has divided and now finds themselves taking different paths to defeating Sauron and his allies. Their destinies now lie at two towers - Orthanc Tower in Isengard, where the corrupted wizard Saruman waits and Sauron's fortress at Barad-dur, deep within the dark lands of Mordor.

The Return Of The King: Members of the fellowship prepare for the final battle of Middle Earth, while Frodo & Sam approach Mount Doom to destroy the One Ring...

Bought this from Play for around £30, box was totally messed up all corners dented. They sent it in a jiffy bag.

In future I'd stick to getting DVD Box sets from Amazon.

Er ... not for some time to come.

The Blu Ray LOTR box set about to be released is the theatrical version only. The extended edition Blu Ray box set doesn't have a release date yet. Why? Because they're expecting the fan base to buy BOTH sets to maximise profits.

Well, they can shove that idea right up their corporate behinds because, just with Lucas and the Star Wars series, I point-blamk refuse to buy anything on Blu Ray until they release the complete set in one box set. So, until Lucas releases SW 1-6 (not bothered about the remakes / extra effects editions of 4-6) and I can get the full extended editions of LOTR on Blu Ray my money is staying in my account!

Rant over.

Good deal if you want the DVD extended editons.

Cold from me....but £17 for this set still gives me a warm feeling. What a fantastic box set. I paid about £100 or so for my separate boxes a few years ago.

The main thing is this just reminds me that there's no way I'm shelling out on blu-rays until they drop in the same way!
