Not actually trying to explain myself, but having owned many different mp3 players over the years this beats them all on just about every level, particularly user interface and overall quality, is that OK now:whistling:

Its a good price for the make, but the sony walkman thats out right now is far superior, its cheaper, has better sound quality and is the only player out there that comes with quality headphones. I got the 8gb for only £75, think its wen't up to £89 now, but its still cheaper than the ipod equivalent. Heres a link

I just hope the new sony is better than the old ones, probably the worst mp3 player in the world and as for the software unbelievably terrible

Its a very good price. But the ipod is not the best MP3 player on the market. One example, Sony NWZA816B 4GB Video Walkman MP3 Player or the 8GB are better sounding MP3 players. What held sony back in the past was the use of thier own ATRAC format (**** software, **** format), now that thier players accept MP3, they should not be overlooked.

What the Ipod is, is the most sylish MP3 player on the market. If image is everything, yup get one.

Great find though, great price.

Dude, u have no idea what u are talking about. The linked sony no longer uses the Sony software, they dropped it. It now uses windows media player 11..... have u used this sony?

I am referring to the above model.

There is a new model which is out, so am not sure which u refer to when u say new?

If you are talking about the model before the one linked in this forum, yup u are right, the sofware sucked.

Yeah like everyones said, the new walkman is much improved. Plus no software is needed, you can just drag and drop mp3 files, unlike the ipod which relies on itunes, and you have the choice of using windows media player if you wish. Personally I just drag and drop, alot easier.

After looking at the reviews on the player Taz is refering to, all the signs are that he/she is absolutely right. Cheapest Sony 8gb seems to be JL using £15 voucher, making it £85 delivered. Suppose you could get a bit of Quidco as well. Anyone seen it any cheaper?

P.S. Taz your link only takes you to the 4GB player.

Well dude if you read what I said I was referring to the OLD sony hang loose man.....

Excellent price, voted Hot!

The iPod may cost a bit more than some MP3 players out there but it's far superior in terms of design, usability and the software. Like Steve Jobs has said previously, the iPod (+ iPhones and Macs) is just a box filled with software - Apple is a software company and they make great software. And it's the software that makes the iPod. Apple have definitely got it together with the iPod and iTunes, they build iTunes, they run the Music Store and they supply the music player, namely the iPod in this case, which is where a lot of other manufacturers fall down. They lack the decent software on the music player and they also lack any kind of decent music player software for your Mac (or PC). And owning an iPod is not just about image, it's about usability and functionality, which I'm sure most people can use an iPod but other MP3 players don't have such a good user interface. If you don't like iPod's fair enough, different strokes for different folks. But Apple wouldn't be the market leader in Music downloads and in the Music Player market if they were that bad would they!

Very eloquently put! I resisted buying an ipod for a few years because I didn't want to be part of the apple empire but now wish I'd bought one earlier, love or hate apple you can't deny they do make the best mp3/video players around....waiting for the sony crew.....

Its a he lol. I was only linking to the 4gb for a comparison with the 4gb ipod posted in this topic. Its a shame the 8gb wen't up to £90, I guess I was lucky to grab it while it was £75, but its still good value. Anyway people saying the ipod is better have failed to mention the issue of sound quality. and this sony player trumps the ipod in this catagory. Plus its also got a great interface, as good as the nanos. The ipod is better than alot of mp3 players on the market, but in my opinion it's not better than this sony, and theres a few good reasons to back that up.

I just bought a 16GB Touch a couple of weeks ago, best iPod ever made and the best Music Player on the market in my opinion. And not only an iPod, it's my Mac for when I'm away from my Mac lol

Oh yeah I forgot the sony has 30 hours music playback, and 8 hours video playback. Much better than most competitors out there, in fact I don't know a player that has a larger battery life. Plus theres nothing wrong with creative players, I had one before my walkman and it was great.

I presumed that you might be male but didn't want to be sexist lol. I know what you mean about the ipod sound quality, i've never been that impressed with it. This is definately one of the reasons that I would go for the sony. I tend to think ipods are becoming a victim of their own success i.e. they're so cool they're bordering on uncool.

Does sound ever come into consideration for an MP3 player??? Till apple can achieve this they are not number one, the ipod plays MUSIC, to make things worse the headphones you get with the ipod are garbage.

Till Itunes becomes DRM free it is also lacking. For $$ value , if you want to buy the same song many times over....its great for u.

The truth is the linked sony in this thread, will make your music sound better then the nano or itouch, and for me, it makes it the better MP3 player i am an audiophile and sound is the most important criteria for me. If i want to look cool i get out my Iphone, if i want to hear great music i get out my sony with a portable amp.

If your a person who buys an Ipod and uses the headphones that come with it, no problems....its the best music player in the world for you......

I just bought a refurb Sony NWA808 8gb off of play.com for £58, its a refurb because the packaging i damaged. Bargain!!

????? I've downloaded many songs from the iTunes Music store and only had to pay for each song once, so I've no idea what you're on about. All the DRM does is limit you to the number of Macs (or PC's) you can play any given track on, as well as the number of iPods, etc. Playing my Music on one Mac and one iPod is enough for me. I don't need to play my music on 5 machines!

All DRM free would do is allow you to play the same iTunes tracks on unlimited computers, iPods, etc. But who in the world owns 20 computers and 50 iPods to be able to do this. So no complaints from me, I'm sticking to iTunes and my iPod Touch thank you very much.

Good price for an Ipod nano therefore have voted hot, but there are better music players out there like the Walkman mentioned.
I don't like Ipod's because they hurt my thumb:p
And everyone that I know who has an Ipod has complained about the headphones. (poor quality, break easily etc.)
But, if you like Ipod's and have been looking for this, quality price. :-D

You just answered my issue about DRM very well.

If you use 1 ipod and computer....why would u care...

Hi, Relatively new to this forum and find it really helpful. I owned the previous sony mp3 player and recently was given the 8gb one of these for x-mas and it was amazing. I too resisted ipod as i didn't want to be a part of the fad. The Sony may have some good points but IPOD has a massive advantage... the third party backup. My friend has a speaker set up for the first gen ipod and i can use it, i remember with my old Sony player when i wanted to buy a remote and i had to get sony as no one else does them and then when the new model came out they were as rare as anything, i was in the highlands and i wanted a charger and again no luck... On the Software note... I used to use connect when it was bad and then i tried using drag and drop and both for me are both massively behind the itunes software, the cover art and organisation offered by itunes are brill, really above anything offered elsewhere, as stated above apple offer the complete solution and it is the intergration that is so brill.
