THis is my first deal post - I hope I have got it right. Not sure how to add a pic though if anyone can help?

This Jacket is great. I bought one 2 weeks ago at the full price - now it has £20 off and I can't find my receipt! A little warnig about the North Face sizes: they do come in quite large. I'm normally a size 8 on top, but have quite broad shoulders and only needed a XS!

Windwall is The North Face proprietary wind-resistant fleece. It has low air permeability and is suited to aerobic activities. This jacket has a full zip, relaxed styling and a windproof mesh lining and is fully breathable.

100% polyester 100 weight, Windwall fleece outer

Windproof to 20CFM

Can I just ask what the obsession with these coats is? Everyone time I get the train, I see at least 5 people with these bloody 'North Face' jackets. Makes me cringe!

I often wonder the same. Don't get me started on the backpacks!

it must be one of those things that unless you try it, you just don' t know. Personally a fleece for £50 let alone £70 is way overpriced ..

So can someone justify this price tag over a fleece bought .... say in Primark for £3 ?
#7
I guess it all comes down to how much the individual values quality over price.

I'm normally a Primark kind of guy but I did splash out on a Carhartt jacket a while back and you can definately tell that they're a much better quality than what you would ever find in Primark or a similar place. I recently bought a North Face jacket and I can tell it's a quality item and so I personally, on this occasion, accepted the higher price. I'm not saying that Primark stuff is bad, in fact I'm amazed at the quality of some items for the price, but the likes of North Face and other 'leading' brands do seem to be in a different league in my experience.

It's a brand like any other, it's popular at the moment. It's like people who buy the majority of their clothes in JJB Sports (or similar) but never actually play sport. People who wear North Face jackets never actually go hill-walking or mountain climbing. *shrug*

Not sure it warrants it's won thread so I'll dump it here unless anyone objects. Was down my local Craghopper shop the other day (based in Denhams Southampton) and picked up a load of Crag stuff at 1/2 price. Merino top, fleece, jumper and jacket. Sale is on for at least another week. Checkout your local Craghopper for details.

Ah but i go mountain climbing , i agree though whats the point in buying North Face if you never go walking or will never even attempt to climb a mountain :whistling:

Thats a nice jacket i saw it myself in the store ,good quailty , i was looking if they had a male version but it seems not :(

These jackets, and TNF waterproofs, are great and will last for years. Lots of commuters who don't drive to work buy TNF because they're great at keeping out the British winter - howling wind, driving torrentail rain - the joys of climate change.

I gave up trying to control an umbrella in the face of wind and rain whilst walking to the station and bought a TNF waterproof, which cost £75. It's fantastic and worth every penny.
A TNF waterproof and fleece will set you back around £130, about the cost of a mid-range winter coat, which will be twice as heavy, not as versatile, probably not waterproof and require dry-cleaning.

And no, I don't go hill walking or mountain climbing.

Is that right? Funny because Ive been climbing for the past 23 years and own loads of North Face gear. The reason its so popular is because its bloody good gear and does what its meant to. Besides which, is it a crime to wear clothing like this even if you don't venture up mountains? Rain is rain no matter where you get it!!

to the OP - good find, I have the male version of this jacket which I sometimes use as a mid-layer in winter and they are excellent.

edit: - sorry, its not this fleece I have, I have one of the Summit series soft shell's which are a wee bit more expensive (£139) It looks just like that though :p

"People in glasshouses.." Don't tarnish everyone with the same brush BD.
I regularly go to the Lake District, have walked the Southcoast path, ride a mountain bike, walk in the New Forest 2-3 times a week and am off to the Dolomites this year... mind you I don't own a North Face, there's better for less out there :whistling:

Insane. £50 for a fleece. Why not just get 2 less expensive waterproof fleeces and give the rest to feed hungry homeless children, aye?
#15
I take it you have never been near a mountain or somewhere where you appreciate the difference between cheap JJB look alike and fit for purpose. When you need it two cheap fleeces do not do the same job as one well made one otherwise mountain rescue would all be shopping at Primark.. I suppose Merino are and CoolMax are just marketing hype to rob outdoor people of their money too?
