Description:

Ricky Gervais' critically acclaimed and multi-award winning The Office is taken across the pond. This unique comedy series offers a smart, tongue-in-cheek documentary-style look at the humorous, and sometimes poignant, banality of the 9-to-5 white-collar work world.

The Office takes a painfully funny look at the interactions of the cubicle jockeys at Dunder Mifflin paper supply company in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Golden Globe winner Steve Carell (The 40-Year Old Virgin) stars as unctuous regional manager Michael Scott who hosts the documentary crew on a tour of the workplace. Jenna Fischer (Miss Match), John Krasinski (Jarhead, Kinsey), Rainn Wilson (Six Feet Under), and B.J. Novak (Punk'd) star as the employees who tolerate Michael's inappropriate behavior only because he signs their paychecks.

With unshaken enthusiasm, Michael believes he is the office funnyman and a fountain of business wisdom. Unaware of how he is perceived by his employees, Michael comes off alternately absurd and pathetic, but always hilarious.

Pam Beesly (Fischer) is the sweet office receptionist who bears the brunt of Michael's behavior. Engaged to Roy, a good old boy who works in the warehouse, Pam looks forward each day to conspiring with Jim Halpert (Krasinski), the likable sales rep with a good sense of humor who should have found a better job years ago. Jim and Pam delight in finding ways to torment the office sycophant, Dwight Schrute (Wilson), the annoying assistant to the regional manager, who is jealous of all the attention that his boss pays to Ryan Howard (Novak), the young, smart, self-possessed temp, who quickly figures out the real office politics.

Next cheapest price is only 82p more, and it's also £6.98 at Amazon prior to postage. Not bad, but not "hot".

I absolutely love this series - HOT from me!

The first episode isn't great (as you compare it to the British one), but then they just get better and better... all those who stoppped watching after the first episode should buy this!

Not a fan, really weird american humour trying to impersonate the british series. Caught it on a recent trip to NYC and didnt laugh once.
That aside, good deal

Well better watching than the UK one. The UK one is funny with some landmark bits but generally I find the US one to be "easy watching" with some laugh-out-loud bits! Not an amazing deal though cause it's not THAT much cheaper than everywhere else, still good-ish :P

Zavvi are a total waste of space. £20 for this? I refuse to deal with them any more. They are going down! The high street stores are abysmal.

You will find that all of the stores will be expensive for certain things at one time or another.. means that they can then have 'massive' reductions

yeah, i agree with some of you guys. It's not an amazing deal, but it's still really good value seeing as a lot of other retailers are still selling it for a lot more you get it for this price including postage.

If you ignore the first two or three episodes, where there is too much mimicry of the UK scripts, then you'll find this to be one of the best sitcoms ever. In fact, it is much better then the UK Office (yes, in my opinion and many people I know that have stuck with the US Office) - and worth the £6.99 for the remaining three or four episodes alone.

Great show, not exactly hot though. Got it for just £5 in the HMV sale a few months ago.

Another voice for better than the UK one, especially once the story actually develops rather than got crushed into two very short series.

Once you skip the pilot of course which is the british script with 1/3 of it cut out.

Depends if the glass is half empty or half full......UK OFFICE was shot and golden!

Agree that season 2 onwards is better than the UK version,

have to say though that this particular DVD is horrendous.

The framerate is all sped up so the sound is at a higher pitch making it unbearable to watch if you have watched other seasons properly on tv.

If it were me I would buy the region 1 version just so it was watchable. Would not recommend the actual DVD itself!

Oh, you're right! I had completely forgotton about that! Although on my disc, the first episode is the only one that I can notice the speed is up.
