First time post so please be gentle......

Apr 2006

Based on the popular British comedy of the same name, 'The Office' uses the same mockumentary style and humour derived from awkward social situations. However, it has managed to establish its own fan base and identity apart from the shadow of the original. At the Dunder Miffin Paper Company, manager Michael Scott believes himself beloved by his employees for his jokey nature. What he doesn't realise is that most of them resent and even despise him, except for sycophantic Dwight. Meanwhile, Jim woos engaged receptionist Pam, while both navigate the office politics and 'humour' of boss Scott. 'The Office' may be a remake, but it has charms of its very own. Season One includes the first six episodes.

Voted hot, great price for a great series. Once you get over the pilot, which is an extremely bad attempt at a UK episode it actually gets rather good.
#2
hot  excellent series

Nice find, I love the Office, both the UK & the US... Dwight cracks me up :)

I'm glad the OP pointed out this is a comedy otherwise I would never have known. An excessive price for this piece of cr*p.

I loved the original office and have watched it over and over again and cant recommend it highly enough, but i just couldnt get my head round this us version, its pretty much the same script but doesnt seem to work for me ... dont know why? second hand humour just dont seem funny in an american context, ... the yanks do have a strange sense of humour.. and ricky gervais is 1 in a billion and just cant be replicated !
#8

I'm in the minority in not liking the UK version, and as a result i didn't like the pilot which is apparently word-for-word.
However, I'm a massive fan of practically every episode but the pilot.

brilliant show!

After the first few episodes it starts to improve, and series 2 and 3 are superb. Great series.

Watch past the pilot episode. That's the only one that's a straight copy of the UK version and is pretty poor.

After a few episodes the US one really picks up and it's into it' third season now and it's absolutely brilliant.

Agreed - series 2 and 3 are extremely good with the additional excellent characters like Kevin and latterly Andy Bernard who has a catalogue of issues. I would say it's easier to forget it's UK roots and accept it for what it is, especially with Greg Daniels (Seinfeld, The Simpsons (oh so that's where all the jokes went...) and King of the Hill) developing the series. If you like the original it still has the same cringe element but on occasion adds a touch of humility (Michael cheering up Pam at her art exhibition without realising it). Plus Dwight is like Gareth x10.

Give it a go.

Indeed. It's far superior to the UK version once it gets into it's stride. I found it really hard to get past the first few episodes because it was somewhat Gervais-lite, but once it hit attitudes day and the basketball game and started doing it's own thing I was instantly hooked. I watched the entirety of season 3 in one day! It's that good!

In some ways I kind of prefer this over the UK
#15
Likewise, it has Steve Carrell in it.
#16
I would agree with what most people are saying on here, the first season especially the pilot episode wasn't that great, but seasons 2 & 3 have been superb IMO much better than the British version.
#17
Love this series better than the ****** overhyped british one with the not funny ricky gervais
#18
I love both versions, because I can appreciate both for being funny in their own individual styles. They are based on the same concept but both are unique and have equally funny characters...but different. It is possible to like one and not the other, I'm lucky enough to really appreciate both, however some people aren't as fortunate.

You are not lucky because you like both people have their own tastes it doesn't make them any less unfortunate.

I must admit i gave up after watching a few episodes of the first series of the us ones, but thinking back i think it took a few episodes to get in to the cringing sense of humor that grows on you in the first few episodes of the uk office, maybe i was too quick to dismiss the us one, after listening to you guys i may give it another go .....cheers for the heads up ..

i agree, series 2 and 3 are superb. Top show!
#24
never seen the US version.

The UK one is my favorite TV program
#25
I agree with the others. Series 1 isn't that great but series 2 and 3 are awesome. Better than the UK version imo. One of the few good comedies on tv (until curb comes back :)).
#26
One of the interesting things about it is that i think 3 of the writers/producers are also main characters which is pretty cool...and that Jenna Fischer is gorgeous.

Thanks OP, ordered this with NUS discount and quidco too!
#28
Great show that gets better over time. Looking forward to the new series later this year.
#29
this really does get a whole lot better in the second season, however, one must watch this and not htink of the uk version- they are the smae basic premise and a few similar character traits, yet, the us actors are given a lot more free reign and more chance to express themselves comically- prob due to the extra 40 or so episodes more than the uk!!! new season- sep 27th!!!!!

Has no one noticed that the price is now 17.99? :/
