We checked out the dvds from the library, and the tin is great! I imagine the tin is very similar on the blu-rays. The librarian commented on how nice it was when checking it out, and it's the first thing my husband noticed when he saw it, too. Which is to say, this would probably make a very impressive gift for someone.

It was £33.96 last week when I checked!

Good price. But I would suggest waiting for it to drop in price as I would have to say the series is not a strong as Band of Brothers prior to it.

Are you sure it's the tin version OK? [maybe you bought instore?]

I know that it was this price there at release time, but whenever I enquired [mail order only for me] they said it was the normal cardboard version....

not worth 30 quid in my view.

nice tin , shame about the contents though......better buy a tin of chocolate biscuits and put the kettle on. Far more enjoyment to be had....

yeah this was a disapointment

Good price but sadly the Pacific was a rather dull affair in comparison to Band of Brothers.

Read both books by Robert Leckie and Eugene Sledge prior to the release of the Pacific on Sky, and the screenplay was a big let down in comparison to the books. If they focused more on Leckie I think it could have been saved as he seen a lot more action than was shown on TV.

But in saying that I would not be dissapointed if someone was to buy this as a gift for me to go along my Band of brothers Blu ray set.

I don't think it was Blu-ray Wendy. Tesco price is £33.93.

I don't think it's supposed to exactly be "enjoyment", any more than Band of Brothers was. Tell that to a US marine or relative and ask for a smack in the mouth. My fiancee's grandfather was a US marine in the Pacific campaign and the most kind, decent person you could wish to meet. What he went through was unimaginable and he never, ever wanted to talk about it.

I'd agree this was not as well presented or particularly structured as Band of Brothers - I've seen much older mainstream TV documentaries that turned my stomach about what happened in the Pacific campaign (by both the Japanese and Americans) and this series really didn't even remotely approach that and was way too episodic, no matter how much it was produced like a big budget film.

Still worth seeing though. It's a part of the 2nd World War that's seldom told. The recollections of the survivors included are most telling, as they are in the Band of Brothers extras .
