City Banker Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins) is in Shawshank State Prison after receiving a double life sentence for murder. There he meets Red (Morgan Freeman) and also forms friendships with the warden and prison guards. Andy soon finds that you either get on with living or you get on with dying.

Adapted from a novella taken from Stephen King's 'Different Seasons' (a collection of stories that would also spawn STAND BY ME and APT PUPIL), THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION marked the first foray into the realms of the writer for director Frank Darabont. In the years since the release of THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, Darabont has directed two other King Adaptations, THE GREEN MILE and THE MIST. Considered to be a financial failure upon its release, and overshadowed by PULP FICTION and FORREST GUMP at the Oscars, THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION has since been re-evaluated as something of a modern classic.

I feel like I should own this... but I really don't see myself watching it again. I've seen it twice, and undoubtedly good as it is... I just can't muster the enthusiasm.

Great price though. Anyone know what's actually on the other two discs?

SPOILERS

This film would have been loads better if:

When he crawls to the end of the pipe, there is a massive metal grid of bars fixed on the end, forcing him to crawl all the way back and back into his room. The last shot of the film should have been of him, in his cell, covered in faeces, looking miserable saying 'ah, heck'.

It would have been a more realistic message to people trying to escape their various life traps.

Sorry but that must rank as one of the most ridiculous posts I have ever read. The whole essence of the film is about how he has dealt with the injustice of being locked up for a crime he did not commit and one that his governor ultimately knew he did not commit, so him getting out through the tunnel was a fantastic part of the film and led to the main characters meeting up again.
Sorry to anyone that has not seen the film as this is definitely a Spoiler, however go and get the movie, in fact read the short story by Richard Bachman, AKA Stephen King, in the book The Four Seasons and you will find one of the very rare occassions when a film actually encapsulates and surpasses a book.

I've just received this 3-disc special edition, and Rabbitmoon's storyline is shown as one of the "alternative endings" on Disc 3.

One of the other (rejected) endings shows him crawling to the end of the pipe and finds it leads to the warden's toilet. It was a cr*p ending, and critics would've panned it.

Surely you mean the best film you have ever seen :)

ace film, great price, good stuff!

Easily the best movie I've ever seen but is it a hot deal? The 'ordinary' (which is double sided with some extras) version has been sub £3 for ages and at the end of the day does anybody watch the 'special' padding?

Save yourself a quid.

Was still showing as available at £3.99 first thing this morning, but added it to basket a little later (decided to risk it, regardless of whether it had subtitles or not at that price) and went to checkout and the price has now gone up to £5.99.
