Can't wait for the 50th Anniversary one - it will be so much better! I must have missed the 40th though.

just read the detail on the sound and video transfer - just about as good a transfer as it gets - good price and well worth the upgrade to blu-ray. Hot for me and a purchase tomorrow! Yodel-hey--he-he!

For the first time on a home video format they've used the original 70mm master negatives and first generation audio recording to create this release disc and apparently it is stunning. It blows the previous DVD releases out of the water. I've just ordered a copy at Amazon so thanks!

Hi, is there a review website that will tell you if a Blu ray transfer is good or bad? Ordered and heat added thanks.

There are a few websites, one of the best is the American site http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/ . The review I read of The Sound of Music was of the American blu-ray release a few days ago at http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-Sound-of-Music-Blu-ray/13695/#Review . The UK and US blu-ray releases should be identical, although the Americans may get extra bonus materials/discs.

Last year my wife insisted we watch this - after 10 minutes the dog started howling, and then ran upstairs and hid under the duvet, which provided me with an excuse to do the same - possibly the worst film I've ever seen

Good choice, glad to see you threw Mamma Mia in there, that was unexpected! I would have to say The Pianist is my favourite from that list, what a brilliantly directed film. Recreated the atmosphere of WW2 Poland perfectly.
