After watching Anne Frank DVD with my 9 year old son (he had covered it in school) I tried to explain the Holocaust to him, but didn't really think he understood it very well. Came across this book and ordered, hopefully will give him a better understanding.

This important, illustrated account of one of mankind's darkest hours examines the Holocaust through harrowing images, shocking statistics, moving personal accounts and a thorough, authoritative text. As most children now study this chapter of history in school, it is helpful to have a book to hand that examines the Holocaust in a sensitive and clear-eyed way.

I personally feel some of the darker, upsetting stuff is too much for most 9 year olds to cope with. It's a tricky one, as children should know about what happened, but I think the really distressing details could be covered when they are a bit older.

totally agree. i would never let any child of mine read /see distressing traumatising images of the unbeleivable cruelty that happened to these victims. i know its history but with the hundreds of years of history the world has to offer , surely there are better and less harrowing topics to research on .

I would never allow any of my children to read anything unsuitable. A lot depends on the child as they are all different. He is 10 next week and is inquisitive about everything, particularly history. If this book which is aimed at 9 and above explains it in a better detail without being too frightening then it will be fine with me. If not, I will put it past until I feel it is suitable for him.

I totally agree. There have been terrible events in history and
we should learn from the mistakes. But the trend is to cram it
into children when they are much too youing.

I think its great youre supporting your sons understanding so well and this is a cheap book

I surprised they start it at school so early but the truth is the truth and childrens questions need to be answered as and when they arise...

Jeez, I'd be disturbed by this let alone a 9yr old!

I can't even watch Schindlers list!

Why give this to such young kids? Whats next, showing them murdered people photos, gassed Kurds, mass murder graves, dead Palestinian kids in Gaza? Just let them be kids. Voted COLD!:x

you can vote either way you want but that statement to me is just plain stupid.
If you read correctly, the book is aimed at NINE YEARS PLUS.

Responding with ridiculous comments like that is nonsense
It's people like you that spoil it for others looking for deals...many people get put off posting because of ignorant comments, this being one of them.
#9
Hows that ignorant then you muppet? Everyone loves a deal, damn right. But why push a book to kids about the horrors of the Holocaust? They should be allowed to be kids, have fun, enjoy life etc without having to be forced to deal with these horrible facts.

Let them grow up and if they themselves want to look into these horrors fair enough its their choice.

If this book was aimed at German/Austrian kids that might be different, but millions of good British people died fighting the Nazi`s.

...have to say I agree with the sentiments here, a 9 year old kid should not have to deal with such vile atrocities...let them be kids FFS, they've got a whole lifetime to find out what a piece of utter cr4p human beings can be!!!
#11
i was traumatised by holocaust images on tv when i was a kid and still get flashbacks. i too can never watch movies that remotely have anything to do with prisoners of war
#12
I'd rather be a muppet than an ignoramus like yourself.
Nobody is forcing anybody to read anything

Are you implying that my child isn't happy and having fun in life if I choose to let him read about the holocaust (aimed at his age group).

If you don't agree with it there is no need to try and put somebody down with sensless remarks like you made, so go back under the stone you crawled out from!

Thanks to the internet, our children will never be just kids I'm afraid.

some people need to learn what 9+ actually means and a really pathetic reason to vote a deal cold :w00t:

I'm quite surprised at some of the negative posts - I hope all the posters have inquistive children they are trying to parent because its not easy :whistling:

IMO you sadly cant edit history for your children - fair enough if they hadnt discovered this yet - it would be totally tramatising and confusing but Troythecat's son is asking questions...what are you supposed to do, say "I'll tell you in 5 years time along with how babies are made"? That how kids get silly and prejudiced views by gossip and asking the wrong people (ie the sort of BNP freaks who believe it didnt happen). If hes old enough for the book then its seems like the right thing to do - alot of people use the novel 'Boy in the striped Pyjamas' as well...

My son is only young but when hes older if he asked those questions I would handle in the same way...

...oh and hot deal - which the last time I checked is what this site is about

dont know why a few of you are flaming "hooray henry" hes only offering his opinion and everyone has their own opinions .i agree with what he/she was saying . i knows its aimed at 9+ but realy images of this nature of those barbaric atrocitys can/could trauma/frighten young impressionable minds. if the book was purely text i wouldnt be so against it being aimed at this age group but with the horrific images/photos i imagine that are in this book is uncalled for such young minds .
every parent knows their kids better than anyone and the poster obviously knows his children can research/ learn on this part of history during ww2 without any issues but some children would be deeply upset in the younger age bracket ... i certainly was !
also no one is knocking the deal and i will be one of the first to thank every poster that pops a deal on here as its saved me soooo much money over the last 2-3 years . so keep the deals coming "troythe cat " and dont let some cold votes put you off even if some posters disagree ... its just a fact of life on here .
keep your chin up fellow hotukdealer:thumbsup:

I'm not a parent, so I can't comment in that respect, but in my opinion you should know whether or not your 9 year old can handle this topic.
However, this subject should be compulsory for every child on earth. The human race will never learn from its mistakes unless we understand the consequences, although atrocities of this scale are less likely in current media conditions, we have seen genocide in recent decades, proving that things like this are still relevent and sadly possible. Maybe 9 years old is too young but when is it too late?

voting is on price on this site, not on whether you like the subject matter. No parent would give this to a 9 year old anyway

if only it was ever that simple . you and i know people will vote cold, even when its a flaming hot deal ..... because they dont like your avatar, they dont like the colour it comes in , they saw it cheaper six months ago , they dont do it in my size etc etc. it would be more beneficial if cold voters would explain why they vote cold but the vast majority are not going too.
gonna try and find some bargains now ;-)

Ok,I was a bit OTT at first and so I can apologise for that.

But I still think aiming this book with pictures at such young kids aint right. Some may say this is in fact subsidised propaganda by pro Israeli publishers/groups. And before I get accused of being a Nazi let me say Im on no ones side.

As for the price yes its a good deal, but if someone came on here posting about a pro Muslim book aimed at 9+ kids that showed dead Muslims or Jews I would vote that cold too.

So I may have my faults but being ignorant aint one of them.

Oh...my...God. That right all us Jews are using the holocaust as propaganda - I think that is one of the most shocking things I have ever heard.
