Of all the Class of '77 British punk bands, the Stranglers are the most enduring, having been together (without breaking up and reforming) for nigh on three decades. This happily thorough anthology brings together their classics ("Strange Little Girl," "Golden Brown") and makes listeners aware of just how timeless their material has always been. The older tracks do not sound dated, and the newer tracks seem of a piece with the older without sounding samey. This is a great introduction to a challenging and complicated band.

Already cold? OK. Please post the link to where it is cheaper. Thanks.

That has to be the worst Stranglers compilation I've seen. 2 discs and only 3 'classic' Stranglers songs?!!..:?

I don't think it's intended as a greatest hits collection

I wont, be buying, my two favourite tracks, Peaches and Nice 'n Sleazy ....... missing ?? I really don't understand how they can call it an Anthology and leave them out !

Hoorah. Thank you. I was beginning to bash my head against the wall with this. There are loads of "greatest hits" CD's out there which feature all the "popular" Stranglers tracks. This still has plenty of them on, however it is also packed with some lesser know gems. It really is an anthology for the Stranglers fan rather than someone wanting to just dip in. However, at this price for a double CD it is worth it if someone wants to just dip in.
If everyone voted CD's cold 'cos they didn't have their own personal favourite tracks on them then surely every CD posted would be cold.

I'm with you. The lesser known gems make this worth getting.;-)

Massive Stranglers fan, one of the things i loved about them was with each album they always tried new sounds and ideas.
These two CD's have a good range of material from their early 70's stuff (they were never punk tho) like '5 minutes', to later stuff like 'Always the sun'...which i hated at first but later grew to like.

Some of my top tracks from the above would be :-

Waltzinblack
Strange Little Girl
Always The Sun
Let Me Down Easily
All Day And All Of The Night
No Reason
5 Minutes
No More Heroes
Golden Brown
Down In The Sewer

anyway, voted hot, cos it shows how the Stranglers evolved over the years

OK..I admit...After Rattus, Heroes and Black & White I thought things just went downhill..

This 'Anthology' is obviously highlighting their later stuff...but any Stranglers compilation that leaves out stuff like Grip, Hanging Around, Something Better Change, Straighten Out and Nice 'n' Sleazy is just not for me ;-)

Totally agree with that, The Raven & Live 'X' Cert, maybe La Folie was a sign of things to come, but at least they had the balls to try new ideas.
Unlike nowadays where manufactured bands stick to one style only

HA! Live X Cert !! - have not listened to that in years. Have it packed away somewhere with the rest of my vinyl - must dig it out and have a listen again. Good one

Oh and the raven is one of my all time favourites - and people call them punks !!

I have bought several LP's and seen them live many times since Hugh C left. Just not the same band without him fornting them. They should have split up then insead of which they have become a sad band with weak songs. You will be able to tell when you listen to this cd which are the old and which are the new songs, such a shame,.
