Links not live yet, but here are the details:

On Monday 2 February 2009 The Sun newspaper in partnership with train companies will launch The Sun 2FOR1 rail offer. This will be the first national ticket promotion to be offered since 2002.

The Sun 2FOR1 rail offer provides readers the opportunity to buy one Adult rail ticket and take another person (adult or child) with them for free.

2FOR1 rail offer tickets can only be purchased online from http://www.thesun.co.uk/2FOR1railoffer. 2FOR1 rail offer tickets must NOT be sold at stations or through any other retail outlet.

To obtain the 2FOR1 rail offer Sun readers need to collect any four of six individual tokens printed in The Sun between Monday 2 February and Saturday 7 February.

Each day a three character pin code will be printed on the token and customers must enter four different pin codes to obtain the 2FOR1 discount on the website.

The 2FOR1 rail offer is ONLY available on Adult tickets. Each 2FOR1 ticket will show a 50% discount on the Adult fare.

Where one Adult + one Child are travelling together, the 2FOR1 rail offer will be available. In this case the Adult ticket will be issued at 50% discount and the Child ticket will be issued at the normal Child rate.

A minimum of two and a maximum of eight people can travel together with one set of four 2FOR1 rail tokens. One set of four tokens can only be used once for a Single or Return journey. All customers that make up the group must travel together on the same train service/s.

2FOR1 rail offer tickets will be clearly identified with 2FOR1 printed on the ticket.

All 2FOR1 rail offer tickets are NON-REFUNDABLE and NON-EXCHANGEABLE. Once the journey is booked, NO changes can be made, no matter what type of ticket is held. Note: Seat reservations are compulsory for Advance fares only.

All other rail ticket restrictions and terms and conditions will apply.

Booking Period
2FOR1 rail offer tickets can be booked between 5 February and 5 March 2009 inclusive. All tickets must be booked at least seven days in advance of travel.

Travel Period
All outward travel must be completed between 12 February and 5 April 2009 inclusive. Tickets with a return validity of one month may be valid for travel until 4 May 2009.

Ticket Types
The 2FOR1 rail offer applies to a range of ticket types including Advance, Off-Peak and Super Off-Peak. Anytime fares are included for journeys where no Off-Peak or Super Off-Peak fares exist. Day Travelcards are excluded from the 2FOR1 rail offer. All 2FOR1 rail offer tickets are subject to availability.

Generally the 2FOR1 rail offer will apply to Standard tickets, although the 2FOR1 rail offer may also be available for First Class travel on some journeys (see Appendix A).

Each train company has identified what tickets should be available for the 2FOR1 rail offer. A full list of tickets being offered for the promotion is provided in Appendix A.

2FOR1 rail offer tickets will be available for travel on services operated by the following train companies:

Tickets lost in post, replacement tickets & ToD failures
If a customer does not receive their 2FOR1 rail offer tickets by post, then they must contact the Trainline.com tel: 0871 244 2395 to get their tickets reissued.

Normal replacement ticket procedures and ToD guidelines apply for 2FOR1 rail offer tickets. Any queries please contact the Trainlines TOC Support Line tel: 0845 309 0990 .

Upgrades
2FOR1 rail offer tickets are non-exchangeable, so cannot be upgraded to a new ticket. First Class upgrades, e.g. Weekend First, are not available to holders of 2FOR1 rail offer tickets.

Gatelines
The 2FOR1 discount is applied using the existing Status Code 042. Please note, some gatelines may not be programmed to accept this Status Code, so in some cases customers will need to be passed through manned gates.

Terms & Conditions
Where applicable, The Sun 2FOR1 rail offer terms and conditions override the existing ticket terms and conditions (e.g. Off-Peak fares with the 2FOR1 discount are non-refundable) and the National Rail Conditions of Carriage.

Customers are advised that they MUST carry all four 2FOR1 tokens with them when they travel and the terms and conditions of the 2FOR1 rail offer state:

You must carry ALL four 2FOR1 offer tokens from The Sun newspaper with you on your journey. When asked by rail staff, you must show your valid 2FOR1 offer tickets and four valid 2FOR1 offer tokens. If you fail to do so, each ticket holder will be required to pay the full price Single fare for the journey as if no ticket was purchased before starting the journey and in some cases a Penalty Fare.

It's now live but you need four different PINs to book them. Don;t book them if you don;t have the physical tokens though...you'll need them on the train

I think it will be a combination of people not noticing that it hasn't started yet and because it is the Sun!

I love people who **** it off as tell them to compare the main stories with the other papers and they'll be much the same. Then ask them if they agree with all the editorial content of their chosen paper, which they usually don't. Then ask them why people who read the Sun will be any different. I know people who won't buy the Sun (even for someone else) but have no problem buying a Daily Express

DISCLAIMER: I can understand people form Liverpools view on the Sun

Hot from me though.

This will be the first national ticket promotion to be offered since 2002.

That should read ... This will be the first national ticket promotion to be offered since 2002 by The Sun. There have been many national rail ticket promotions in the last few years.

I bet they are still not as cheap as buying advance tickets, so check with an online ticket seller before buying.
#12
Thanks for the heads up though a little too far in the future for me as I am sure I will have forgotten by the time 2 feb comes, though no reason that it should be expired.

STARTS TODAY IN SUN DONT FORGET

The website is now live...as is the booking engine. You have to enter 4 PINs off the tokens to book anything, and then obviously have the tokens with you.

What I'm wondering is if it matters if the PINs you enter match the tokens you have, cos I forgot to buy the paper on Monday, but would like to be able to book my tickets tomorrow. That would obviously mean that I would have to use Monday's PIN but would have Tues-Friday tokens on the train.

PIN 2: 24U
PIN 3: GR8
PIN 4: SVR
PIN 5: BQK

Those should allow you to access the site to check prices and whether your tickets would be available under the offer, but remember only to book if you can get hold of a set of tokens. The saving should give you an idea of how high to bid if you have to get them from ebay.
