The corridors of Whitehall have, of course, proved a rich trough for comedy in the past, but sitting among the finest must be The Thick Of It, a terrific, insightful and desperately entertaining satire.

This complete first season follows the antics of Hugo Abbot, a simple MP, whose ongoing fight with his partys spin doctors provides just one richly mined strand for the show. Skilfully mixing drama and comedy, and shot in the increasingly popular fly-on-the-wall documentary style, The Thick Of It manages to be both laugh-out-loud funny, yet eerily scary at the same time.

The credit, clearly, lies with the brains and the cast behind the programme. In front of the camera, both Chris Langham and the seemingly-brutal Peter Capaldi have won the plaudits, but much of the acclaim also needs lying at the doorstep of Armando Iannucci. Iannucci already has a comedy CV that few can rival, both in front of and behind the lens, and its testament to the quality of The Thick Of It that it stands next easily next to anything in his back catalogue.

This unmissable DVD brings together all the episodes from the little-seen-yet-rarely-rivalled maiden season (although the Christmas special is missing), and its a real comedy treat. Bluntly, The Thick Of It is a modern day classic, and through the DVD release, more people can finally get the chance to see why

Great series. If you haven't got the specials either you can get the series 1 and specials boxset for £9.99 from;0;-1;-1;-1&sku=114579
It is very funny...shame about Chris Langham being convicted of downloading child porn...sort of take if comedy edge off a bit............
C'mon lets face it, its all about Glenn *jokes*.
This was by far the best series. To be honest no matter how hard I try I just don't really enjoy it now :(
This is actually series 1 and 2.
Series 3 is what has just finished on BBC2.
This thread is about as much use as a marzipan dildo.
Far superior to the second series - this is comedy gold.

Series 2 is episodes 4 to 6 on this DVD.
Malcolm Tucker is AMAZING

You know what I mean... the specials aren't really a "series" are they. I don't know why they call it that.
I got very confused as to how definitive this was. Series 1 and Series 2 were three episodes each. As previously stated these are on this DVD.

There were then three 'specials'. These are on the HMV deal posted earlier in this thread.

Series 3 is currently showing and is 8 episodes long.

HTH anyone who was head scratching like I was a few hours ago
