This is my 1st post so hopefully I've done this right. I was going to buy this for my Dad for Christmas and the cheapest place I could find it was WHSmith for just under £50. I love The Book People (www.thebookpeople.co.uk) so I couldn't believe it when I found the exact book I wanted here for a fraction of the price.

Good price for it. I have an edition from years ago, great book.

Admittedly now it's holding up my amplifier. But I did enjoy it a lot before it got deployed as emergency shelfing. :)

Thanks for your deal :)

the problem with the book people is they do a couple of good deals then your locked in to buy overpriced books

The book people is not a book club and there is no buying commitment. I have been buying from them for a couple of years and although their range of books are limited they are all significantly below RRP.

You misunderstand this posters response, he means they are evil bar stewards who lock you in shop until you buy something very high priced.

Superb book, this. WELL worth £15. The last edition was brilliantly presented in a sturdy slip case. The pages are large, glossy and excellent quality. Truly worth the RRP, even!

Is it much different to this one, which is a pound cheaper?

And I suppose you could go via Quidco and get Tesco points.

Although they are both from the same author, the one I originally posted has a RRP of £75 and is a real coffee table book (38*28cm) with fantastic illustrations. I've not seen the other book but I suspect because it is alot smaller (23*15cm) and only £20 RRP that it is not as illustrated. Having bought an earlier edition of the £75 book, believe me you are getting a lot of book for £15

Ordered one, too hot to miss!

...that it is not as illustrated.
I think you are right about that.

The Tesco one states "Edition: Text only ed".

How detailled is this book? Is it good for someone who's not particularly knowledgeable but would be interested in reading snippets from time to time, or is it pretty heavy-going? Thinking of the FIL for Xmas but although he likes historical stuff he's not exactly what you'd call a history buff!

Its a book that you would want to dip into from time to time. Each double page covers a different period in time eg Europe from 1945 to 1973 and shows detailed maps of that time and other illustrations, photos etc. It covers from the origins of man to today. I'm not a history buff either but I find this book fascinating.

this book totally gives a PC eurocentric simplistic perspective on history..loada bull

Thanks, ordered this plus a few of the 0-3 children's books for the little nipper:thumbsup:

Very hot!

Mine just arrived - along with 3 other books I ordered :) This book does easily look worth its RRP of £75. Bargain for £15 if you like this sort of thing.

Just got mine...it's size of a dinner tray!!! Amazing value and of the highest quality...hardback, glossy outer cover and a box/sleeve thingy to keep it in good condition.
A perfect Christmas pressy.

Uber hot deal. Thanks.
