Passion, ambition, and treachery collide in this compelling drama about the early years of King Henry VIII's infamous 40-year reign. With a lust for power and an appetite for love, this young Monarch (Jonathan Rhys-Meyers) rules his kingdom as he lives his life - with ruthless abandon. Affairs of the state carry little interest for him, and official matters are left to the powerful Cardinal Thomas Wolsey (Sam Neill), while England's ruler tends to his own desires.

This engaging and thrilling drama also stars Natalie Dormer, Jeremy Northam and Gabrielle Anwar.
Special Features
11 Cast and Crew Interviews.

As a 13 year old lad would have loved to watch this in a History lesson. I would have learned so much.:w00t:

surely the idea of a history lesson is to learn historical facts :w00t:

check what actually happened compared to this series.

I'm no historian, but didnt one of the wives survive in the series yet was beheaded in reality?

and to make Henry out as some great uber liberating stud is a complete joke

he was no better than the current bunch of populous blood-sucking tyrants we call the royal family

neverthesless, a great work of tv fiction.

I wasn't refering to the, erm "historical facts". More about the content of the show that would attract a 13 year old lad.

Yes, it does take a certain artistic licence in its interpretation of the court of King Henry VIII. However, it is mostly accurate in the basics. But like you say, afterall, it is just a TV show; and a jolly good one at that.

they've only covered 2 of his wives so far, and they were both correct were they not, divorced and beheaded?
also wasnt it well known that during this time (his younger years) he was a bit of an athletic stud type not as he is always portrayed as a fat old man.

.

Nope. All correct so far.
One exiled and divorced (Catherine of Aragon).
One beheaded.(Anne Boleyn)
One he is smooching over at present (more to come in the new series) Jane Seymour who will die shortly after marrying Henry)
Then he will see a very good piece of Photoshopping, and in his remorse at losing the fox that was Jane Seymour agree to marry Anne of Cleves and then divorce her as quick as he can.
And I reckon that will take us to the en of series 3 before he starts executing again.

fair enough - I stand corrected.

Shouldnt series 3 start at the end of march?

not exactly an ugly person playing Anne of Cleves tho (Joss Stone). think they should have cast someoene else in the role tbh
