Synopsis
Passion, ambition, and treachery collide in this compelling drama about the early years of King Henry VIII`s infamous 40-year reign. With a lust for power and an appetite for love, this young Monarch (Jonathan Rhys-Meyers) rules his kingdom as he lives his life - with ruthless abandon. Affairs of the state carry little interest for him, and official matters are left to the powerful Cardinal Thomas Wolsey (Sam Neill), while England`s ruler tends to his own desires.

This engaging and thrilling drama also stars Natalie Dormer, Jeremy Northam and Gabrielle Anwar.

Note this is NOT a true historical drama so dont use it to study for your exams.

Many historical events and people are "made up" or changed for the sake of the drama.

Dates of events are moved to increase dramatic effect, people die at the wrong ages, or in the wrong way.

As an example, Henry had two sisters, Mary and Margaret, but the program merges them into one charcater, Princess Margaret, but has her doing things both sisters did.

This is nothing more than a soap opera set in medieval times.

It would not surprise me if Henry wakes up in the shower and finds it was all a dream, like they did once in Dallas to get out of a difficult story line.
