My Dad has The Very Best of The Stone Roses on his birthday list so after a quick look around the usual stores I was surprised that it was around the £10 mark. However a quick visit to the Zavvi website meant that I was able to track it down for under £4. Is unbelievable value for a fantastic collection of tracks by a classic band and of course there is quidco on offer too!

PS...First post so be gentle ;-)

The very best of The Stone Roses is actually their first album in it's entirety called "The Stone Roses". It's a work of genius and perfect in every way.

I wouldn't buy anything as inaccurately named as this misguided concoction.

No it's not, check the track listing.

Tracks like Elephant Stone appeared on the Silvertone "cash in" 'Turns into Stone" which was a collection of B sides.

What I can't tell (as I don't own the compilations, but i've got both albums, garage flower and sally cinnamon as an LP amongst other things), is whether this is the compilation with the gimped shortened versions of fools gold and resurrection or not. There are two, I think this isn't the gimped one, the crap one might be called "The Complete Stone Roses" but I can't remember.

On the other hand if you're just trying to be clever and say that nothing beyond the first album is worth having, you must be mad as you're missing out on all the B sides from the era.

"The Complete Stones roses" is a good compilation. That one has all the A's and B's in chronologial release order.

It depends what your Dad wants. If he has the first album, he might like this. Some of the other tracks are ok, but nothing will ever touch that first album for me.

If he has no other Stone Roses records, ignore his list and buy the first album, you are doing him a favour. you could get it for a fiver or less.

I was at Spike Island! waited all day - ******* hot ill tell ya. Worth it though.

I remember that, hot and dusty and they took AGES to come on. But as you say, definitely worth it :-)

Apart from the dreadful singing I almost agree.
