For anyone who missed the most important TV program in decades last night, it's available from Friday on DVD at a good price. Or low-res on ITVplayer for free! Very, very pertinent watch.

Following his award-winning documentary The War on Democracy, John Pilger's new film is a powerful and timely investigation into the media's role in war. The War You Don't See traces the history of 'embedded' and independent reporting from the carnage of World War I to the destruction of Hiroshima, and from the invasion of Vietnam to the current war in Afghanistan. As weapons and propaganda are ever more sophisticated, the very nature of war has developed into an 'electronic battlefield'. But who is the real enemy today?

Couldn't agree more. Alongside Noam Chomsky & Naomi Klein, John Pilger is one of the few commentators willing to stray from the effete, liberal intellectual elite, party line that the war in Iraq (and war in general in a historical context) is predicated on anything other than outright lies and the need to wield power indiscriminately. The opening sequence alone featuring an Apache helicopter attack on a group of unarmed Iraqis is one of the most chilling pieces of non-fiction film that I've seen.

A real eye-opener.

Was going to vote Cold, and decided to watch it to justify my narrow decision.

Having just soent the last 90 minutes watching it, I can only vote HOT.
As pstuart says " A real eye opener"

Amazing to see top named journalists from both sides of the Atlantic hold their hands up and accept they didn't ask the tough questions because they were compromised by embedding.

Sounds like the sort of conspiracy theory nonsense you occasionally see weirdoes posting on Youtube. Think I'll pass.

That's why this world is in such a mess. People dismiss such things as 'theory' when they are actually fact. The governments themselves have admitted there were no WMD's.....the press confirm they should have checked the facts......yet the sheople are more interested in X-Factor or I'm a celebrity..........

How can you call this nonsense when the actual guys who were there admit to it last night.

That's what I thought .... until I watched this ..... and heard from the very lips of the major TV journalists that what they themselves reported was crap, because they accepted everything being told to them at face value and did not question further.

So, please explain how this is a "conspiracy theory" when they held up their hands to say their own reports were utter rubbish and not to be believed ????????????

the journos were not being honest .. they knew they were lying and that they were doing the bidding of government. the bbc talking head was just disgraceful and the itn was no better.

they are having regret because the facts are out there and so they want to pretend ignorance.

oxbridge educated and they work in newsrooms with so much more info the ordinary bloke on the street ever will know .. its not possible for them to not know the truth.

Don't patronise me, sonny!

I know we've dumbed down in recent years but is this really what passes for investigative journalism these days?

This documentary takes 90 minutes to tell us the fascinating and astonishing truth that sometimes the media twists news stories to suit their own ends? Wow - who'd have thought it? ;)

What's Pilger's next documentary - "Sometimes It Gets A Bit Cold In Winter?"

You have missed the whole point - it's not about the media twisting news stories to suit their own ends ...... as you can't be bothered to watch it, or read the threads it's pointless debating with you because your arrogance is shielding your ignorance, so you're never going to understand beyond your own mindset.

You do realise that that's exactly what a conspiracy theory nutter would say if you refused to watch the footage he's just put on youtube proving that 9/11 was done by shapeshifting lizards?

Leaving aside the merits of otherwise of this rather shoddy film, I fail to see how paying £8.99 to weatch a film you can see for free on the ITV I-player can be described as a hot deal?
