One of television's most critically acclaimed programmes, The Wire challenges viewers with a "cop show" unlike anything else on air.

The HBO series addresses the seedy side of Baltimore's finest looking into money, drugs, politics and murder. Told from the point of view of both the police and their targets, the series captures a universe of subterfuge and surveillance, where easy distinctions between good and evil, and crime and punishment, are challenged at every turn.

A study on urban life in one of America's toughest cities, each season of The Wire has focused on a different aspect of Baltimore, starting with the police force and the drug trade, then moving on to City Hall, the education system and concluding with the media. Over the course of five seasons, David Simon has endeavoured to build a city.

It is a groundbreaking, complex and political look at the streets of America, detailed and fiercely intelligent; there is no other show like it on TV.

One of the best shows ever, well worth the price and more.

Just buy it. No long winded discussions. It is really good. Honestly.

This is a truly original series that took 7 years to cross the Atlantic, the first series was made in 2002.:)

Many think, including me, that this is one of the very best if not the very best series ever made. It takes a while to understand what they are talking about as it is all in the language of the locale but very well worth the effort.

If you don't already have this complete series, get it![/SIZE]

The best show ever made , period .
The characters are 'too' real .
#5
numpties - out in the car park NOW! The best show ever made is 'The Shield'

This however, is compulsory viewing.

In before Shield vs Wire comments

Doh.

Shield for the win!

Great show, but not a good deal. You can buy it all for a tenner cheaper elsewhere.

I must be one of the only people who just didn't get this show. Watched 6 episodes and gave up.

Don't think it will happen as it wasn't shot in HD - it's not even in widescreen! Don't let that put you off though, it is the best thing you are ever likely to watch.

For me the shield got worse the longer it went on wheras The Wire was awesome from about eps 5 of season 1 til the very end.

The shield should has stopped after season 5. It just got silly in the end.

It's £9.99/series at bangcd.com, with 10% quidco. That comes to ~£44.95 after quidco for the complete set. So you're basically paying an extra £20 for the cardboard that holds the box set together. Have I missed something? Are there any extras with the box set as opposed to buying each season separately? :?

What a rude dude.

I didn't post links as I was on my phone which doesn't have cut and paste.

Series 1-4 £9.99 each at Bang, as mentioned by komakino

Series 5 - £14.99 at HMV.

=£55ish.

A tenner less than this boxset.

Thanks

It's called trolling. If you jump in and out of a thread and say that it's cheaper elsewhere and don't bother to mention where, what else can you expect?

Absolutely stunning series, and having worked in Baltimore I can only vouch to it`s authenticity.

I had seasons 1-4 from Bangcd, tenner a pack. Just ordered season 5 from Amazon at £15.18 inc postage.

Boxed set would make a superb Christmas present though, Highly recommended series, the best you will currently see on TV. (in my humble opinion...!!)

Amazing series. Recently caught it on BBC2. Well worth buying if you've never seen it before. Didn't realise that one of the main stars , Dominic West is from Yorkshire, until after i'd finished the last episodes.

For sure, McNulty does do a very good job of hiding his roots. :)

To all of the folks who are not sure about this series, you will need to watch the first half dozen episodes before you are likely to get the hang of the language and the way things "work". IMHO it is more than worth the effort. It is the only series of this genre that I will watch for a second time.

To all of the Sheild fans, I agree that it was a first class series when it was launched (at almost the same time as The Wire) but, for me, it lost its shine very quickly and so I gave up soon after the end of the first series.

...and so the winner is - The Wire - by a country mile or maybe even two. :)

Well he might expect the thickos on here to at least be able to read before picking a fight, even when the source of the better deal is given in black (or blue) and white. At least it was on topic, (i.e getting a better deal) which your's wasn't. You can't even get the definition of a troll right - try looking in the shimmering water under your own bridge.

The thing is Adamo, grattsdid mention where it was. All you had to do was look for the Wire banner on the BangCD front page.

Sounds like someone needs to re-up on some chill pills.
