I honestly dont think this show is as great as many "cool folk" (ie Charlie Brooker and Adrian Chiles ) make out. I watched the first series and it was okay, but not a patch on its peers Dexter, 24 and Sopranos. I reckon this boxset will drop again in price soon. (not voted, as I dont want to appear cool, like Adrian Chiles)

You've kind of missed the point.

EVERY series of this show concentrates on a specific layer of society in crime. They even go to the extent of re-recording the theme for every series to reflect the theme.

BUT, no thread is ever left uncovered as it expands - the repurcussions of one series may only be felt in a few more series time, or never...and the people in the show never know, unlike the viewer. Main characters die at the most inconvenient times for the TV series because...they have been realistically killed. They might not even be missed by the survivors - or it might bring them all to their knees. Good people are punished, bad people are rewarded and vice versa.

Though, to be honest, if you didn't like the great first series that revealed the initial street layer of the crime that runs through the whole show, you probably won't like the rest...

Fair enough... I guess I like my american drama slick (Sopranos, Dexter, etc) those shows are stunning to me and really lived up to the hype. The Wire is too grim and if the overrall message of the Wire is that life can be bad, and bad people can be rewarded and good people can be dumped on,and theres corruption in all areas of society then, hey I know that already...and I am cooler than Adrian Chiles:-D

Never watched this or the Sopranos, but am a big fan of Dexter. My new years resolution is to stop watching the mindless pap you get on TV and replace it with quality stuff, so whilst nothing may ever top Dexter and to a lesser extent 24, getting my hands on a cheap box set of the Sopranos, West Wing, the Wire with a near guarantee of selling close to the buy price on e-bay makes a lot of sense. Something always has to be the best, 2nd, 3rd or 4th best can still also be brilliant.

It was in the Walsall store. Sorry.
