With the fall of the Barksdale empire, and the ascent of a new young drug king in Baltimore, McNolty, Bunk and the rest of the detail continue to "follow the money" up the political ladder amidst a hotly contested mayoral campaign. The explosive fourth season of The Wire continues to blur the lines between good and evil, and incite the fires of urban unrest.

Voted Hot..... if you haven't seen The Wire just buy and watch.... no questions asked, some of the best TV you are likely to watch.

Wow... Got all these for £9.99 from Bang recently and thought they can't possibly get any cheaper!

Is there any postage with bangcd? anyone ever used them? reliable?
#7
includes postage, and they're very reliable.

with your first purchase they send you a code for a pound off your next order; so if you're buying three series, you could buy two and then buy the third separately with the extra pound off.

definitely, just do it.

I was quite literally going to buy season 2 yesterday for £16 from HMV for a relatives birthday at the end of May.

This is an excellent deal and am going to give them S2 and S3 for only £2 more.

I have never used BangCD before how long is their usual delivery time.

For people that have never saw it The Wire is easily the best TV show ever been on TV, this is a bold statement but one I feel is totally justified, it truly is that good.
#9
posted from singapore, so best allow a week.

not the fastest, so no good if it's urgent...
#10
My experience with BangCD is that my instock item wasn't sent for 3 weeks before they cancelled it.

Still - a great price. if they deliver the goods (I was unlucky!). However these will not be the UK release for those that want the UK packaging, a small point but may affect some.
#11
Wonder why they don't have season 5 for sale.

Not been released in that region yet?

But will these work ok on a Region 2 coded machine, its for a relative and they do not have a Multiregion DVD player.

Season 3 is by far my favorite, if you have never saw it I would say get that ASAP.

There are many that say S4 is their favorite, S5 was a bit of a letdown compared to other seasons and S2 was also not on the same level as S1, S3, and S4.
#16
Their site is really slow - or is it me
#17
just bought season one for my dad on saturday for £9.99....also couldnt use quidco as i was using some crap pc that quidco didnt like

anyway, id advise buying these from BangCD. great price, good delivery. also, the DVDs are exactly the same in terms of extras and content as the UK versions
#18
Yes site so slow I nearly gave up.

TIP
Register first with them before buying. You will get a £1 voucher code by e mail immediately, then use the code to get a set for £7.99.
#19
Great deal!!! Am recording all these from BBC 2 though while they're running every episode.

How long does it take - never came through for me

Great price, but took about 2 months to come when I ordered before christmas!

The site is abysmal; I've used it before without problem but am getting nowhere fast today and am losing the will to live.

I enjoyed it much more when watched with subtitles, which you can't record. Have you watched any of it yet; much is hard to follow unless you were brought up in the Baltimore ghettos.

Sky+ records the subtitles (which you must have on IMO until your ears become accustomed to the dialect).
Anyone know when the next series will be on BBC2?
#25
Does anyone know if these come in the cardboard sleeve? Call me a perfectionist, but I'd like all the boxsets to look all boxy next to each other on my shelf!
#26
I once read a review that stated:

"There are two types of people in the world, those that have seen the Wire and those that need to."

And they were right, great series!

Just watched season 1 so far but getting on ok without the subtitles, not sure if you can use subtitles or not when recording with V+ box or not. Was gonna buy the boxsets on DVD till I found out they were gonna show them back to back on BBC 2. Just got the books 'Homicide' and 'The Corner' which seem pretty good too.

Not sure, had a look on the net but no info.

Trying to decide if I can wait for it to be on TV or buy it now!

Next series starts Bank Holiday Monday I believe.

Hot, but blimey there are some spoilers in that post :-(

Just watching season one and I now know that a certain central plot theme is not going to get resolved until S3.

Yes they do.

I bought 2 and 3 from bang for 10 quid a month or so ago - had no problems and they arrived within days. Bought season 4 from Amazon for £15 a couple of weeks ago (am about to watch the last episode tonight). i KNOW as soon as i buy season 5, Bang will sell it for £10 or under - but i can't wait!!!

Have to say, season 4 is brilliant - the kids especially. I know i'm in for a treat tonight, but i always feel bereft when i have come to the end and the next one isn't lined up next to the DVD player.

But i feel as though i have to stick up for season 2, can't decide whether 2 or 4 is my favourite so far - i guess that all depends on what happens tonight - but i think i'm in for a corker even though i get the feeling it is going to be very bitter sweet.

How does one cope with life after season 5 ?????

Agreed!! Admittedly it does contain some regional slang that you may have never heard before, but I think requiring subtitles is a bit OTT!! Reminds me of an episode of Secret Millionaire the other night filmed in Belfast - every time an Irish person spoke they put subtitles on the screen!!

This is by far the best bit of television I have ever seen - I'm jealous of all those that have not seen it yet as they get the pleasure of discovering it! Absolutely fantastic.

And to the poster that said they have just bought The Corner and Homicide - both are brilliant books. The Corner was also made into a superb 6 part miniseries.

That I don't know. I watched the final ever episode for the first time on Friday and now I am not sure what to do next.

I tried to watch the pilot episode of Homicide which is the show the Wire is a spin off from but turned it off after 30 mins, it just does not have that spark the wire had.

The best thing about S4 in my opinion was Pryzbylewski (had to copy/paste that from IMDB :-D)

He had grown leaps and bounds since the pilot episode, and behind Major Bunny Colvin he was my favorite character.

S3 is my favorite though as the story ark with Colvin and his "legalizing" drugs to get them off the corners was something superb to watch and to also think about at the same time.
