Great price for a great show. I have these boxsets already, but this show is so good, I 'm seriously thinking of buying them again anyway!
#3
Bought them about two weeks ago for £16.97, so this is an even better price for the greatest TV show ever.
#4
Voted hot.

Just working my way through this show on my Blockbuster account. If I wasn't doing this I would have purchased them at that price.

Best TV series I have ever watched bar none.
#6
Great deal - stunning show.

Just wish season 4 was available for that price:x

Claim back the difference from Amazon - I bought season 2 a couple of weeks ago for £16.97 and have claimed the difference back already :)

Worth noting that although these are £14.97 they qualify for free delivery individually anyway.

I've not seen a single episode of this but is it really better than The Sopranos?
#9
it is yes

I love the Shield and loved NYD Blue and the Sopranos. Is this along the same string, or not quite as gritty and more CSI?

I'm gonna wait until they get an all 5 season box set but I just wanted to post to say

THIS IS THE BEST TV SERIES EVER.

Yo, its better than Sopranos, Shield, anything thats been on TV.

"It's Omar yo!"

it is a great series. Personally I thought the first episode of the first series was a much lower quality than the rest. So you may watch it and wonder what all the fuss is about, stick with it, does get much better though.
#14
truly the best tv show ever made. its way better than Shield and NYD Blue, not quite as gritty!? its the most real show i have ever seen.

I fully agree. I was "forced" to watch the first 3 episodes back-to-back by a mate, who told me if I only watched the 1st episode, then I wouldn't bother with the rest. After that, I would quite happily have sat through every episode in one sitting. The best thing on TV, and I'll be gutted in a couple of months when they finish on FX.

Shiiiiiiiiit.

Re-up! Re-up!

Omar Comin' yo.

That is all.

Like what everyone else said. Fantastic show but you need to watch the first 3 episodes before it really gets going.

Copped from Wiki:

Despite never seeing great commercial success or winning any major television awards,[2] The Wire has frequently been cited by critics as one of the greatest television series of all time.[3][4][5] The show is recognized for its realistic portrayal of urban life, artistic ambitions, and uncommonly deep exploration of sociological themes.

Simon has stated that he originally set out to create a police drama loosely based on the experiences of his writing partner Ed Burns, a former homicide detective. Burns, when working on protracted investigations of violent drug dealers using surveillance technology, had often faced frustration with the bureaucracy of the police department, which Simon equated with his own ordeals as a police reporter for The Baltimore Sun. Writing against the background of current events, including institutionalized corporate crime at Enron and institutional dysfunction in the Catholic Church, the show became "more of a treatise about institutions and individuals than a straight cop show."

Come at the King, you'd best not miss...

How do I go about getting a refund from Amazon on the extra I paid compared to this? Cheers.

EDIT: Managed to work it out, cheers! Rep added.

Lol, just claimed back the difference as well. gotta love Amazon. Just finished series 3 and just had to get season 4, even though it's £24. I thought season 2 was better than 3, probably because there were more new characters in 2. I was never into the Sopranos but I'm glad I stumbled across this.

Don't mean to spam but here is some more info:

Entertainment Weekly named The Wire the best show of 2004, describing it as "the smartest, deepest and most resonant drama on TV." They credited the complexity of the show for its poor ratings.

Despite the critical acclaim, The Wire has received poor Nielsen Ratings, which Simon (the creator) attributes to the complexity of the plot...

This is very true, its an intelligent show thats not dulled down for idiots. Even the language and slang that they use is very authentic and can actually take the viewer some time to get into.

Awesome show!

Email customer support and just say that the price has changed within the last 30 days and you request a refund. They should reply the same day. When you click on the customer support button it will allow you to specify which order your question relates to. Simple.

I always check on the price of items after shopping with Amazon, when the HD DVD players were dropping in price I ended up being refunded £35 in two weeks

Well I 've watched the Sopranos and The Shield and I enjoyed both although I haven't watched the last season of either especially after all the bad press the final episode of the Sopranos got.

Once I got into The Wire I had to watch it all the way to the end, not in one sitting ofcourse, but without watching other tv series' in between.
#32
thanks, i've never seen an episode of the sopranos or the shield either, but i think i'll order the first series of this after what people are saying about it
#33
I'll do what I can to help y'all. But, the game's out there, and it's play or get played. That simple.

Grow a set of balls and let us know.

Quite simply the greatest thing ever shown on tv , and possibly the greatest thing ever committed to celluloid. I started watching it a coupla months ago & spent any spare minute since then watching it. Just watched the final episode a few days ago.

There is no other show to compare it to because nothing else comes remotely close. You are a fool if you dont buy this immediately

A close comparison might be Homicide life on the street.
It's also set in Baltimore, and is based on a book by David Simon, creator of the wire.
The first series is pretty good, later ones go off the boil a bit.

But really nothing comes close to The Wire.
I've been regretting selling s1-3 on ebay... repurchased on this deal!

very quick service from amazon, ordered yesterday dinner time and it was here this morning :)

Thats just daft. The last season of the Sopranos was great and the final episode was really, really well done.

Voted hot and ordered.
