"We're Not In Kansas Anymore."

We click our heels in anticipation. There's no place like home and no movie like this one. From generation to generation, The Wizard Of Oz brings us together - kids, grown-ups, families, friends. The dazzling land of Oz, a dream-come--true world of enchanted forests, dancing scarecrows and singing lions, wraps us in its magic with one great song-filled adventure after another.

Based on L. Frank Baum's treasured book series, The Wizard Of Oz was judged the best family film of all time by American Film Institute. And this never-before-seen restoration looks and sounds better than ever. We invite you to embark for the Emerald City on the most famous road in movie history. Dorothy (Judy Garland), Scarecrow (Ray Bolger), Tin Woodman (Jack Haley) and Cowardly Lion (Bert Lahr) await you on the Yellow Brick Road and "Over the Rainbow."

Tempting...

I was all set to click 'add to basket' until I saw the 'Sing-along Edition' banner along the top and all enthusiasm was drained from me and replaced with a horrifying image of Andrew Lloyd Webber on a golden throne.
#9
Try watching it on mute with 'Dark Side of the Moon' playing in the background. Some say it works, other dispute it, but either way there's some scary synchronicity;

i loved this film from a kid and still watch it with my daughter every so often . absolute classic !
#11

I watched this on Blu-Ray and was very impressed by the Hi Def transfer but not by the film itself, which is really poor in terms of story, characters and acting.
#17
Reads as £9.99 to me. But then Play's prices shifted during the afternoon yesterday and I ended up buying a Hendrix album at Amazon instead. Annoying I had vouchers for play and by time it reset the sale had gone past the point of cancelling.:x

I think you might find one or two folks, or maybe even more, that will disagree with your assessment. WoZ is a favourite of millions across many generations. One of the most popular, and loved, movies EVER made.

This is the only bluray that I have bought, and thought the quality wasn't that good.
If you play the dvd, then play the bluray disc, there is not that much of a difference.
Yes, there is a slight improvement with the bluray, but in my opinion, and it's only my opinion,it's not that different.

Panasonic 46 inch G10 model.....Why ?
#23
Ive heard some people say they cant see a diference between sd and hd but they are usually watching on 32 inch or below screen. Iam surprised you say you cant see much difference on a 46 inch screen but then again I havent seen this blu ray!

I can usually see a big difference between sd and hd but then again iam watching on a huge screen.:)

totally agree ! love everything and its history about the film. one of the best films that will ever be made.

I have sky hd and the difference between sd and hd films is massive,
Then again the difference between watching say Monsters inc on sky hd channel, and watching Monsters inc on bluray is again a big difference.Obviously 1080i v 1080p.
I am not saying that this film looks awful on bluray, just that IMO I was expecting it to look a little better being bluray. If you search different reviews of this bluray you will find that alot of people do think this transfer is very good. Then again, there are others that are not to impressed, same as me.Maybe some people are easily pleased, maybe some of us are to fussy........Maybe I just expected top notch bluray picture, which is possibly a little to much to ask of a 70 year old film.......Think I may come in the fussy bracket.:whistling:

Having said all that, i have enjoyed this film many times since I was a kid,and with a shed load of extras, I wouldn't put anyone off buying it.

does anyone know if the blu ray disc is region free? i.e. will it play in my region-1 PS3 (US)?

great deal =)

The 2 bluray discs have region 2 printed on them.So I would say it wouldn't play on region 1 players.

Just ordered it now and it still let me use the code!! It said out of stock but it still took my order.

It is an additional option on the Blu and DVD discs. It doesn't automatically come on so won't spoil the movie. Amazing quality for 71 years old.....a bit like madonna...:w00t:
