Amazing in Blu Ray !

Follow wide-eyed Dorothy (Judy Garland)and her ragtag friends Scarecrow, Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion as they head down the Yellow Brick Road in search of Emerald City and the all-powerful Wizard of Oz. Shot partly in black and white, partly in Technicolor, THE WIZARD OF OZ is a perfect juxtaposition of reality and fantasy.

Nice transfer.

I was always of the opinion that a film had to be shot on Blu-ray to enable its resolution, until i saw this. An epic film to start with transferred superbly to give so much more depth and crispness, almost like a new version, stunning.
Well worth it at this price. Nice find.

I have watched this and was amazed at the clarity. Incredible to see something so old look so crisp and vibrant.

Nearly all films are shot in a resolution even higher than blu ray.

This is true although the archived formats aren't always up to the same standard which is why some older transfers stink I would guess.

As I understand it, this was shot on high quality film. It's like the Prisoner Blu Ray too - amazingly clear. At that time many shows were shot on film.
If the film has been stored well it can be scanned at pretty much any resolution, treated and cleaned up.
It's like TV shows from the 80's/90's was generally shot on cheap tape cameras so will never get any better than that.
